Pizza Hut customers in Phoenix can now get beer delivered along with their pies, so long as they show a valid ID when the pizza guy arrives. Wine will also be an option on the menu come January.
Officials for the pizza chain say that Phoenix was chosen for the test beer runs because its a good bellwether for trends in the national market and because many of its chain locations there already have beer and wine licenses, CNBC reported Tuesday.
For a flat fee of $10.99, Phoenix delivery customers can choose between a six-pack of Budweiser, Bud Light, Shock Top or Kilt Lifter, a local craft beer brand, according to a CNNMoney report.
When it expands the program beyond Phoenix, Pizza Hut expects to vary the menu according to regional preferences, a company executive told CNBC.
Pizza Hut’s beer-and-wine gambit is the latest in a string of upgrades of technology and marketing campaigns to bolster the Yum Brands subsidiary’s standing against the competition, particularly delivery chain Domino’s, CNBC said.
