Supreme Court says slots at racetracks subject to referendum Columbus Dispatch-09/21/2009
The Ohio Supreme Court ruled today that Gov. Ted Strickland's plan to add video slot machines at Ohio's horse-racing tracks as a way to generate nearly $1 billion for the state budget is subject to a statewide vote.

Editor's Note -- Excellent Job Supreme Ct-except Justice Pfeiffer. This was Governor Strickland's stupid idea.To balance the budget on gambling after Ohio voters have turned it down 4 times shows pure stupidity.A governor does not create bad public policy that rewards out of control spending. That never solves the problem. A good governor would keep cutting back programs. Now, the Secretary of State must put this issue on the ballot if enough signatures are collected to put the issue to a referendum vote to let the voters decide once again they don't want gambling in Ohio.
Mr. President, Stop ACORN Funding Now Michele Bachmann-Human Events-09/21/2009
One of the most egregious abuses of your hard-earned money has been federal funding for ACORN. This non-profit organization is no stranger to controversy. But its seemingly endless entanglement with criminal investigations, indictments, and consent decrees for voter registration fraud and related crimes in more than a dozen states across the nation didn't even faze Washington. Since 1993, ACORN has received $53 million in direct taxpayer-funded assistance. Since January of this year, ACORN has been made eligible for another $8.5 billion through the “stimulus” and the fiscal year 2010 budget.

Health insurance mandate includes 'tax' despite Obama denial FOX News-09/21/2009
President Obama gave ABC News' George Stephanopoulos a stern talking-to Sunday for suggesting that a mandate to buy health insurance would amount to a tax. But the language of the health care reform plan proposed by Sen. Max Baucus, explicitly labels the penalty attached to the mandate as an "excise tax."

Editor's Note -- Under this mandate, the government is forcing people to spend money, fining you $3000 if they fail to go with his plan, and Obama says that doesn't amount to a tax. Yeah right!
Obama's Nontax Tax WSJ-09/21/09
President Obama didn't make much news on his round of five Sunday talk shows yesterday, with one notable exception. The President revealed a great deal about his philosophy of government and how he defines a tax increase. It turns out the President thinks a health-care tax is not a tax if he thinks the tax is for your own good.Appearing on ABC's "This Week," Mr. Obama was asked by host George Stephanopoulos about the "individual mandate." Under Max Baucus's Senate bill that Mr. Obama supports, everyone would be required to buy health insurance or else pay a penalty as high as $3,800 a year. Mr. Stephanopoulos posed the obvious question about this kind of coercion when "the government is forcing people to spend money, fining you if you don't [buy insurance]. . . . How is that not a tax?"

Editor's Note -- This article continues to prove that Obama's health insurance mandate is a truly tax increase!
White House dismisses Fox News as ‘ideological outlet,’ renewing feud Washington Examiner-09/21/09
President Obama’s Sunday media blitz of five networks deliberately left out Fox News, with the administration calling it an “ideological outlet.” But by passing over “Fox News Sunday” with host Chris Wallace, Obama skipped over an audience of up to 3 million viewers who tune in regularly to watch the show and its reruns.

Editor's Note -- What a hoot! Would anyone not think of ABC, CBS, NBC and CNN as "ideological outlets", and the reason is that they are all liberals but are so blinded to their own biases that to them, it all seems so normal. Only, they need to look at their ratings. They are way below Fox News.
'09 Fair poll responders not pleased with governor Marietta Times-09/13/2009
A majority of respondents to The Marietta Times' 2009 Washington County Fair Poll are not pleased with the job being done by Ohio's governor. The annual survey of opinions on various issues received only 48 responses this year, down five from the 2008 edition, and a far cry from years past when more than 100 people responded. The poll is not scientific, although in the past, it has been a good indicator of local opinion.Respondent Ronald Hill, 68, of Reno, was one of 34 people indicating they were unsatisfied with Gov. Ted Strickland's performance going into the upcoming election year. Hill described himself as a bit of a "fence-straddler" when it comes to the governor.
