US spends $70k on ads denouncing anti-Islam film

By Matthew Lee

WASHINGTON (AP) - The American embassy in Islamabad, in a bid to tamp down public rage over the anti-Islam film produced in the U.S., is spending $70,000 to air an ad on Pakistani television that features President Barack Obama and Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton denouncing thevideo.

The State Department said Thursday the embassy had compiled brief clips of Obama and Clintonrejecting the contents of the movie and extolling American tolerance for all religions into a 30-secondpublic service announcement that is running on seven Pakistani networks. Obama and Clinton's comments, which are from previous public events in Washington, are in English but subtitled in Urdu, the main Pakistani language.

Department spokeswoman Victoria Nuland said the aim was to get the messages to the widest possible audience in Pakistan, where tens of thousands of protestors angry about the film tried to reach the U.S. embassy before being turned back by Pakistani police. She said embassy staffers had decided the ads were the best way to spread the word. The seven networks have a potential audience of 90 million people, she added.

"The sense was that this particular aspect of the president and the secretary's message needed to be heard by more Pakistanis than had heard, and that this was an effective way to get that message out," Nuland told reporters in Washington. The ads are not running in other countries, she said.

In the ad, Obama is seen talking about America's tradition of religious tolerance and Clinton is seen saying that the U.S. government had nothing to do with the video that contains vulgar depiction of the Prophet Muhammad.

"We absolutely reject its content and message," Clinton says in the advertisement.

A caption on the ad reads: "Paid Content" and it ends with the seal of the American Embassy in Islamabad,

Nuland said it was common practice to pay to air public service announcements in Pakistan and noted that the embassy there had done it at least one other time, in the aftermath of a deadly 2005 earthquake that hit the country.

In an email sent after the ads began running Thursday, the embassy in Islamabad also distributed a link to video of ordinary Americans condemning the anti-Islam film, which appeared on YouTube.

Nuland said that some of the comments on the video had been solicited by the U.S. government from religious leaders and other prominent people in order to demonstrate that anti-Muslim sentiment is not widely shared in the United States.

In an interview with The Associated Press, Pakistani Foreign Minister Hina Rabbani Khar defended her government's decision to declare Friday a holiday to allow people to peacefully protest the video. She said the so-called "day of loving the prophet" would motivate the peaceful majority to demonstrate their love for Muhammad and not allow extremists to turn it into a show of anger against the United States.

"We are very confident this will lessen the violence," Khar said. But, she acknowledged: "There will always be elements that will try to take advantage of these things."

I bitterly resent paying for an ad in a vain attempt to placate ignorant, brutal bigots for whom whatever the moron in chief or that idiot, billory, says will not make a bit of difference. Freedon of speech is the FIRST AMENDMENT. How about we shut THEM up? VOTE THEM OUT!

Way to go, guys! We spend all that money denouncing a film most of the people there never heard about. Now they know about it and get even more mad. Anybody want to bet against the idea this was done on purpose to increase the noise level. Im thinking the dems want the muslims to get even more mad at us. Maybe we should use islamic concepts. If you don’t like it, tough beans. If you don’t like that answer, we shoot you. I wonder how they would react to that?

This is stupid! It raises awareness of this obscure video. It shows the US as being weak, especially under the treat of intimidation. America lost more standing in the world as a result of our inept president and secretary of state. We cannot afford four more years of this bumbling.

What part of the phrase, ‘ We want you dead ” do the Bobsy Twins fail to understand ? Seems simple and direct enough for any person capable of understanding 2nd grade English. Now is the time to send these two screwups on an apology tour to every hellhole in allah’s outback to do the softshoe routine that infuriates us here. Make sure to film it in living color. Include kneepads in their gear so that they may grovel longer. Can you imagine what the lives of these two must have been like in Middle School ? They probably looked like skeletons due to every single kid in their class taking turns to both eat their lunch and rob their pocket money.

The mixed signals being given the world of Islam is starting to confuse even me.
Obama (and Hillary) say they detest the video.
Muslims assume that since he hasn’t removed the video he detests, he is weak.

He says he can’t prosecute the filmaker because we have ‘freedom of speech’.
Muslims (in Islamic countries) have no concept of a freedom that allows a person to do something … anything … the government does not approve of. So, it is obvious that this ‘freedom of speech’ is a sign of a weak government.

Then, the message is passed out that says, “We are sorry you are angry, we are sorry we can’t make the video disappear, and we are sorry you blame us for it’s existence.”

In other words, the message is … “We are a sorry bunch, and you are right to see us as weak and worthless. Yours truly, Barack and Hillary”

Such is the ultimate acheivement of Obama’s grovel-ready foreign policy.

Obama spends $70K (more) of our tax money and still gets burned in effigy. From Solyndra, et al., to $250K of taxpayer money for a Chevy Volt, the guy just doesn’t know how to get good value for our money.

Why don’t Obama and Hilary simply kiss the president of Pakistan’s rear end in a public square in Islamabad? Let’s save the $70k.

So basically they are treating Muslims like wild animals, not responsible for their actions. I mean, after all, if you taunt a tiger, he will attack you. –As if they were taunted! So not! But you get my point.

Not only is cowtowing to these people shameful but the message suggesting that the administration is tolerant of all religions is equally wrong. If that were the case we would not have Christian institutions and Christian run private companies suing the US government that is trying to force them to act against their moral and ethical views.

What strikes me is when various groups put together films or ‘art’ displays, or plays, etc. with a disgusting image of Christ the only response by our government is to state that ‘freedom of speech’ allows for this and if we, as Christians, don’t like it too bad. These types of responses come even from professed Christian politicians. Here we have a similar situation but with the Prophet Mohamed the focus and they are all over themselves apologizing, grovelling, and denouncing the video. Something just doesn’t seem right, wouldn’t you say?

Obummer and the wicked witch of the west making fools of themselves again, I hope they move to the middle east when they are thrown out of office in January . Then they can live in the sub- human culture they helped to put in place,I am sure both would love the homosexual sex part of the culture in place there.
