US Ambassador, 3 others, slain by Libyans in attack on consulate

By Esam Mohamed and Maggie Michael

TRIPOLI, Libya (AP) -- The U.S. ambassador to Libya and three American members of his staff were killed in the attack on the U.S. consulate in the eastern city of Benghazi by protesters angry over a film that ridiculed Islam's Prophet Muhammad, Libyan officials said Wednesday.

They said Ambassador Chris Stevens was killed Tuesday night when he and a group of embassy employees went to the consulate to try to evacuate staff as the building came under attack by a mob guns and rocket propelled grenades.

The three Libyan officials who confirmed the deaths were deputy interior minister for eastern Libya Wanis al-Sharaf; Benghazi security chief Abdel-Basit Haroun; and Benghazi city council and security official Ahmed Bousinia.

The State Department said Tuesday that one American was killed in the attack. It has not confirmed the other deaths.

The attack on the Benghazi consulate took place as hundreds of protesters in neighboring Egypt scaled the walls of the U.S. Embassy in Cairo and tore down and replaced the American flag with a black Islamic banner.

The attacks in Benghazi and Cairo were the first such assaults on U.S. diplomatic facilities in either country, at a time when both Libya and Egypt are struggling to overcome the turmoil following the ouster of their longtime authoritarian leaders, Moammar Gadhafi and Hosni Mubarak, in uprisings last year.

The protests in both countries were sparked by outrage over a film ridiculing Muhammad produced by an Israeli filmmaker living in California and being promoted by an extreme anti-Muslim Egyptian Christian campaigner in the United States. Excerpts from the film dubbed into Arabic were posted on YouTube.

Stevens, 52, was a career diplomat who spoke Arabic and French and had already served two tours in Libya, including running the office in Benghazi during the revolt against Gadhafi. He was confirmed as ambassador to Libya by the Senate earlier this year.

Before Tuesday, five U.S. ambassadors had been killed in the line of duty, the last being Adolph Dubs in Afghanistan in 1979, according to the State Department historian's office.

Obama said that they would like us now and that he had made that possible. Not only do they still don’t like us but the latest news is:
The United States ambassador to Libya, J. Christopher Stevens, was killed in a rocket attack on the American consulate in the city of Benghazi on Tuesday, a contractor working at the mission said Wednesday after seeing Stevens’s body.

Carter had no security problems in Iran until he helped dump the Shah.
Obama had no security problems in Egypt or Libya until he helped dump Mubarak and Gadahfi.

Now, Obama has no plan available to seek justice for the Americans killed, just a weak-willed promise to ‘close the barn door’.

He certainly has the spine needed to show Russia some ‘flexibility’ …

I guess it is official now. Islam is a peaceful religion, isn’t it?
Seems to be true only as long as we respect them, while they disrespect others.

We have Freedom of Speech, Islam mobs have Freedom to kill.

The religion of islam is the religion of peace. I read somewhere that the word islam actually translates out in English as peace. So the religion of islam is the religion of peace. That doesn’t mean it’s peaceful, that’s just it’s name. And killing people just because some character posts a movie on youtube is definitely not peaceful. We should give them a big dose of their own medicine, but our apologizer-in-chief won’t do that. I think the responses of both obama and Romney will give Romney a big boost as the American people will see the difference between the two.

cdrcody – their ultimate goal is peace (also Satan’s goal) their means to get there are NOT peaceful. Once the Muslims subdue the world forcing and subjugating all to be Muslims, then, they figure, there will be peace. Pretty perverted.

Tis an act of war. What would the Muslim world’s reaction be to the ‘slaying’ of one of their diplomats? They would want our hides; should we react any differently? We should issue an ULTIMATUM: Deal with these ASSASSINS OR we will DEAL WITH YOU!

The USA will get real tough and tell the Muslims that they condemn this attack.

Need to ID these terrorists: send in some paramilitary and ring in some ole fashioned justice. These scumbags should not be allowed to ‘think’ they can perpetrate such heinous acts and WE WILL NOT RESPOND. Blow them away!

But you know we will not respond. That will have to wait until we throw that character out on the sidewalk where he belongs and we get a leader who has a couple.
