Salt Lake Olympians back Romney at convention

By AP Staff

TAMPA, Fla. (AP) - Some of America's former Olympians are making the case for Mitt Romney to become the nation's next president by praising his leadership qualities and citing his work to make the 2002 Winter Olympics a success.

Kim Rhode, who has competed in the last five Olympics as a member of the skeet shooting team, says she supported Romney because she believes the country is off-target.

Speed skater Derek Parra says his dream of participating in the Olympics was almost derailed because the 2002 games were mired in scandal and deficit. He said it was a time of uncertainty, but noted that Romney was then hired to lead the Salt Lake Olympic Committee.

Parra said Romney got the games back on track and gave him the opportunity to realize his dream.

We already know that Romney is a very nice person, caring, charitable and a reliable and talented leader who has succeeded very well in business. But last night I learned of a couple more important things that really impressed me:

    – his stick-to-it-tiveness. Get into the problem, stick with it no matter what, until it is solved. This trait will be very valuable and necessary in order to solve our nation’s problems especially with the atmosphere in Washington.

    – sincerity and integrity. Have we ever seen a politician who has listed and organized all his campaign promises onto a big board and by the end of his term fulfilled them all? He did this a Governor of MA.

I have never seen anyone candidate more qualified to solve the enormous problems stifling our country today than Romney. He is the right man for the job.
