Romney women talk family in Florida

By Tamara Lush and Michael Schneider

TAMPA, Fla. (AP) - Ann Romney can't seem to stop talking about her five boys, even though they're hardly boys anymore.

Hours after her speech to the Republican National Convention, the wife of GOP presidential nominee Mitt Romney campaigned across the critical battleground state of Florida on Wednesday, talking about her sons, her physical challenges and, of course, her husband.

"Know that this is a man you can trust," she told about 100 people at a Latino Coalition luncheon. "Know that this is a man who will work hard for this country."

Romney started out at a "Women for Romney" fundraiser in Tampa, where she was greeted by former Entertainment Tonight host Mary Hart, Janna Ryan - the wife of Romney running mate Paul Ryan - and her five daughters-in-law.

Romney said that when her sons were small, she prayed they would find good wives. She also joked that watching them raise her grandchildren was payback for the ruckus they caused growing up - continuing a theme she played up the night before in her convention speech about family, and her family in particular facing good times and bad, like many others across the country.

Mary Romney, who is married to son Craig, said Ann Romney was like a second mother, teaching her how to cook, shop for heels, and "how to be a kinder, gentler, wife and mother."

She added: "I only hope that one day, my boys respect and love me half as much as my husband and his brothers respect and love their mother. You should hear my husband pray for his mom and for her health. They adore her."

From there, Romney went to All Children's Hospital in St. Petersburg, where she shared her story of facing physical challenges from multiple sclerosis.

At the dedication of a hospital playground for special needs children, Romney, 63, said she learned of the importance of physical therapy after she lost use of her right side and had trouble speaking at the age of 49. She said she turned to physical therapy with horses to help her.

"It was a physical therapy of literally making your body work and pushing through some of the physical pain and pushing through some of the limitations," Romney said.

Romney was accompanied by more than a dozen daughters-in-law and grandchildren. Her grandkids played on swings and slides with children who were in wheelchairs, and had Down Syndrome or cerebral palsy.

"I can't believe it's you!" said 11-year-old Seth Morano, as Romney bent down to greet him in his wheelchair. Morano has cerebral palsy and gets muscle strengthening therapy.

Later, Romney attended the Latino Coalition luncheon with her son, Craig. She said it was important for Latinos to vote Republican in the Nov. 6 election because a large number of Hispanics own small businesses.

"He's been there. He's had to do it himself," Romney said. "He understands how to make an economic engine thrive."

Her themes resonated with Ramon Campos.

"I don't think we hear enough about family values at all," said the 31-year-old Campos. "She's a great partner for Romney and complements him nicely."

American women are coming to realize that in 2008 Barak Obama was presented to them as the man of the moment who would heal the nation, fatten their bank accounts, and stop the seas from rising. After voting for him they learned too late that he was not our American man of the moment, just the man of the moment of his seductive immediate oral gratification followed by four years of sobering regret, sinking hopes and divisive flooded political swamps. Obama’s offer was no productive date of the potential of a long term productive caring commitment, but just one more pandering seduction of a pandering blind date gone bad. Once HE got what he wanted, and the thrill of the political electoral prom was over, he just kicked you to the curb and left you standing alone with empty words, empty job offers, empty headed leadership, empty job offers, empty wombs, empty unfulfilled promises as empty and unfilled as our empty homes and empty gas tanks.

Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan in 2012 ARE the men of the moment, and will not only take you to the prom but take you all the way home in leadership and love and fulfill the promises as productive capable men of their word, men who ARE actually CAPABLE to fulfill the promises made, of American destinies fulfilled in love and caring opportunities that enrich minds, enrich spirits and enrich personal property of all parties in the relationship, not enrich just the pandering party of the one night stand, who promises everything until they get what they want and move on. Romney and Ryan are the kind of men who keep on giving, not keep on taking, who stand between their women and the darkness, not just bring more darkness into their lives. The truly broken, Liberally abused and Liberally used blind-sided and blind-dated American women of sound mind and hearts, who give up the liberal drugs and awake from the sobering nightmare of unfulfilled Liberal promises gone bad will soon flock to them in legions.

“Men of the moment, not just the moment of Immediate Gratification followed only by years of regret.”

Barack Obama was peddled to the voters like a new brand of soap and all too many bought his sales pitch without any thought of asking about his background, his values and his plans for the nation’s economy. This was the plan of those who pushed him into the presidency and who had been thwarted by the failure of Gore and Kerry to win elections.

Anyone who visited Obama’s 2008 WEB site would have realized he was pandering to the major “victim” groups of the Democratic Power Machine and had no intentions of leading the country to a new era of universal prosperity or better race relations. He was going to increasingly push gender equality and affirmative action as well as other aspects of the “victim” politics of social change, so where did these blind followers get the idea that these wouldn’t be his agenda? All he promised was hope and change, leaving it up to the listener to fill in the details based on their degree of compassion for “human victim groups”, “animal victim groups” and the environment.

Let’s face it. The 2008 election was a joke with a very glib community organizer running against an opponent whose outlook and personality had been severely affected by 5 years of brutal captivity. When I listened to McCain my thought was that he was like some who’ve been in intense combat or captivity — just happy to be alive. This is not meant as a criticism, but as an observation on how many of our POWs survived.
