GM has large backlog of Chevy volts

By AP Staff

DETROIT (AP) - General Motors will temporarily close the Detroit-area plant that makes the Chevrolet Volt next month to control inventory and prepare to make a new model.

Spokesman Bill Grotz says the factory will be off-line to match supply with demand and prepare to build the 2014 Chevrolet Impala. He wouldn't say how long.

Grotz says GM is happy with its supply of electric Volts. The plant also makes Chevrolet Malibus.

GM has sold 10,666 Volts so this year, more than three times as many as last year.

But the publication Automotive News says GM has 6,500 Volts in stock, enough to supply dealers for 84 days at the current sales rate. Automakers like to have a 60-day supply.

The move affects 1,350 workers at the factory on the Detroit-Hamtramck border.

This is not the first time they have stopped production on a car that nobody wants. Gov’t Motors (GM) has struck out again.

Wonder when Obama will over-rule that. Standard federal policy is that whatever is not working, put more money into it. GM is acting counter to the government’s interest by doing that.

I belive they sell as many Volts in 1 month as tesla’s in a yr! and the tesla cost a lot more and only seat 2, in aVolt you can seat 4 people in comfort, with all the modern convenents and in a tesla when you bat. runs out of power, you are walking! when your Volt runs out of power, you have a gas engine that starts up and makes more electricity to keep you going and going and going, just like that pink bunny.

They are installing pedals on the new models so that when you lose power you can still get home. The name of the new model is the Pvolt.

Not to mention the batteries catch fire! Even adding pedals doesn’t help that! I’ve heard that there is a phone built-in that connects directly to the nearest fire department and that GM offers flame resistant coveralls as an accessory!

The problem with the Volt is its price tag at a time when our economy is a disaster and no one is going to spend any more money then they have to for anything, especially an expensive product like a car. When the economy is booming and Americans have low debts and extra money to spend, then they will consider spending more money on say a Prius ($30,000) versus a Volt ($43,000) if they want a hybrid or plug in electric vehicle.

We’re paying for it whether we own it or not.
We’re not going to get anything back for it.
It’s actual cost are far and above what they’re even selling for, thanks again to the taxpayer, WHO again is paying for it at any rate.

    Burn it. Just Sayin’.
