Romney to Reid: 'Put up or shut up'

By AP Staff

WASHINGTON (AP) - Mitt Romney says it's time for Democratic Senate leader Harry Reid to put up or shut up when it comes to talking about the Republican presidential candidate's taxes.

Reid has been saying this week that an investor with Romney's former company, Bain Capital, claimed that Romney didn't pay any taxes for 10 years. Reid says that's why Romney isn't releasing more than a year or two of his tax returns.

Reid isn't saying just who makes that claim - and the Nevada Democrat adds that he isn't certain that it's true.

On Thursday, Romney told radio host Sean Hannity that Reid needs to, in Romney's words, "put up or shut up." He called the claim about his taxes "untrue, dishonest, and inaccurate."

In a world with an honest media, it would be members of the ‘press’ across the board telling Reid to put up or shut up. Instead, very few have challenged him and most have abetted his sinking to a new low in politics — by publishing his wild, unfounded, without showing any proof or witnesses allegations and then letting him get away with telling his victim: “I don’t think the burden (of proof) should be on me”. “The burden should be on him. He’s the one I’ve alleged has not paid any taxes. Why didn’t he release his tax returns?”

Clearly those who are silent about this unjust diversionary allegation (or was it an accusation?) are without shame.

The way I remember it, every tax paying person is required to retain records for only three years. However, when it was leaked that members of Congress and their staff were exempt from the laws on Insider Trading, it became obvious to we poorer citizens that Ms. Pelosi and Harry Reid are the ones that should release all their records from the time they arrived in Washington. Romney on the other hand never had the advantage of being exempt from laws on investing and profit, so three years is reasonable and legal.

Ron Paul was willing, Newt was willing,Rick Perry was willing, why on earth won’t Mitt release those returns? By not doing so, he gives the SociLibDems grist for their mills of half truths and lies. If he isn’t hiding anything other than he made tons of money or maybe didn’t give as much as he should have to the Mormon Church (not that I’m saying that’s true)Why not release them? I’m beginninmg to worry that he’s giving too much ammo away and they can say anything they want.
Just like Harry Reid did. AND if he didn’t pay taxes, that was not illegal, just smart!

If Romney released his returns, it would just give them MORE ammo. They would just pick every little thing apart and it would be a distraction from the real focus – Obama’s record!

I heard from a reliable source that Harry Reid eats babies and strangles kittens for amusement. I don’t know if it’s true or not, but if it isn’t, why doesn’t he disprove it?

President Osama wouldn’t release his thesis, birth certificate, driver’s license, voting record “present,” (don’t know enough to take a stand on anything), or anything else. Oh no, media frenzy! Now that we voted it in and THEN found out what’s in it, I quit wondering what it is, and am wondering when it will be arrested and sent to rot in a cell.

I second that. I chastise my friends and relatives from Nevada every time I see them for allowing this to happen.

Kind of reminds me of Joe McCarthy. “I have here a list of one person who says that Mitt Romney didn’t pay his taxes. No I won’t ell you who is on the list.” What bull feces.

I thought Joe had a list of 212 Communists in high levels of our government, but didn’t have a single name right. However, the NSA had broken the Soviet code and had an equally long list of actual spies and traitors who were being tracked by our government until some congressperson told the Soviets we’d broken their code.

Two things to keep in mind: First, Harry Reid has never released his tax filings. Second, I have it from a resident of Las Vegas that Harry Reid moves his lips when he reads, and can’t pronounce the word “Constitution.” I don’t claim that this is true, but I’ve been told this.
