WASHINGTON (AP) - Senate Republican leader Mitch McConnell says the odds of Republicans taking over the Senate after November's elections and him becoming the new majority leader are "50-50."
The Kentucky senator says he expects "a very close, competitive election" in the battles for the 33 seats on ballots this fall.
McConnell is not predicting a sweep for Democrats or Republicans in the fall Senate elections. With 50 seats needed to take control, McConnell says "at the end of the day, we will have a very narrow Senate one way or the other."
There are currently 51 Democrats and 47 Republicans in the Senate. There are two independents, Bernie Sanders and Joe Lieberman, who align with Democrats.
The comments came Sunday on CNN's "State of the Union."

Senator McConnell, in these statements made to CNN, reflects the REAL PROBLEM that we have with our leadership! As written today by Star Parker, our leadership is FAILING miserably to be positive, put forth real solutions, and have any confidence in moving our country in the right direction! And the sadness & shame of this is that statements like this made by McConnell & others may indeed become a self-fulfilling prophecy! Any athlete, and even moreso any combat leader/veteran from our military can tell you that if you don’t have confidence, a plan, and the ability to adapt quickly to changing situations, you LOSE! We need far BETTER than we’re getting from our leadership currently at all levels!

This is the type of comment that has been typical of
McConnell and why he has to be thrown out of his
Republican leadership job! He is weak and inept, and
is one of the major problems with the Republican campaign
effort! He is one of the best weapons the Democraps have!
As an example, he is supporting the LOST legislation which
destroys our ability to manage all our oceanic operations and
turns it over to the UN! This man is a menace and has
to be recognized as such and thrown out by the Republicans!
