PHOENIX (AP) - Phoenix police have arrested a woman who allegedly drove off after forgetting that her 5-week-old baby was in a car seat on the roof of her vehicle.
Officer James Holmes said officers were called out early Saturday after witnesses found a child strapped in a safety seat in the middle of an intersection.
The boy wasn't hurt. He's now in the custody of Arizona Child Protective Services.
Authorities say the child's mother, 19-year-old Catalina Clouser, her boyfriend and their friends had been smoking marijuana earlier in the evening at a nearby park.
Upset that her boyfriend was arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence, police say Clouser went to the home of friends and smoked more marijuana.
Clouser left around midnight. Police say she apparently put the sleeping baby on the roof and drove off, forgetting he was there.

As waiting potential adoptive parents, stories like this breaks my heart. You’ll see on Yahoo answers so many young teens as young as 13 years ols keeping their babies, while there are repsonsible couples who are unable to have children who would never do something so irresponsible by putting their child in harms way.
To teens like this parenting is a chore where to adoptive parents its a treasure, a gift, and appreciate it every moment.

The kid is her mealticket; a few more, properly spaced in time,and she will never have to work. This is what the “welfare state” is all about. If she was responsible for supporting him, instead of the taxpayers supporting them both, there would have been no baby.

You are absolutely correct but I will go one step more NONE of these women that are drugs should never be allowed to have children until the are clean and soper and then and only then reverse the ability to have children.

@Miles, et al: Perhaps this young woman did consider adoption, who knows? But being under the influence 24 hours a day makes it impossible to make sound decisions such as that.
Also, I would like to remind everyone that children of ALL ages are available for adoption, not just newborns. This pink-haired person could hold onto her unlucky kid for ten more years before Child Safety finally removes him, and then her boy might be thrown into the system where *some people* consider adolescents too old/undesirable to adopt. Babies always seem to have potential adoptive parents waiting, but those same people with supposedly lovely motives will not take in non-babies.
In a fair world (which it never will be), such snobbish people would not be allowed to adopt ANY children if they turn up their noses at a needy child just because of his or her age.

P.S. I have always said that any person who wants to become a parent should get a license to do so — I mean if you need to earn a license to drive a car or go fishing, why can’t we at least expect a little effort to become a parent!? Raising a child is an awesome responsibility, or at least it should be considered as such.
P.P.S. My husband and I have happily adopted many children over the years. There are many hoops to jump through if you want to become an adoptive parent, there ought to be some similar qualifications to remain a child’s parent if you get into trouble somehow. Seems only fair.

MY DAUGHTER IS IN THE ACT OF ADOPTING 5 KIDS (3-8 )ALL FROM SAME PARENTS. HE IS IN JAIL AND SHE IS UNFIT ! MY DAUGHTER IS IN HER 40′S AND HER ONLY CHILD DIED AT 7 DAYS.ADOPTION WAS NOT AVAILABLE BEFORE BECAUSE SHE HAS HER OWN BUSS. THESE KIDS ARE RELATED TO HER HUSBAND , AND CAN YOU THINK OF ANYONE CRAZY ENOUGH TO TAKE ON 5 KIDS AT 1 TIME ? THEY WILL DO GREAT ! AND I GAINED 5 MORE GRAND KIDS !
I HAVE 4 KIDS AND NONE ARE IN JAIL OR HAVE BEEN THERE ! !THAT SEEMS HARD FOR MOST FAMILIES TO SAY ANYMORE !

This is so sad but the sadest part of the story is she will probably get the baby back and what kind of life does that child have to look forward to. There are so many people who would adopt a child because they can’t have one and we have people having babies that don’t take care of them. Very sad Very sad

yes, like us. We are waiting to adopt and it kills us to see so many children unloved and mistreated. If we could we would take them all and love them all and show them what a good happy childhood is really all about.

Couples seeking a child would not have to go overseas to adopt babies if irresponsible ‘parents’ would put them up for adoption to responsible families who could give the child a stable, loving home.

It’s a miracle the baby wasn’t hurt. Donna is right, though. They will just give the baby back to the mom. Pretty sad. Free birth control and legal abortion doesn’t stop this sort of thing, now does it? Maybe that is part of the problem. Five weeks earlier, the stoner-girl could have legally killed her child in the womb. Now she is a child-abuser.

The key word in tha article is “Boyfriend”. No surprise if she wasn’t getting ADC money or some form of child payment welfare.
The answer to “why don’t they” is MONEY. Without the kids money from the State, City, or Feds she wouldn’t be able to afford her joints.

I hate to admit this, I forgot my baby once. I didn’t leave her on the car roof, but we were visiting relatives, and she was asleep in the corner of the den in her car seat, and I nearly left her behind. Of course, I had two other toddlers at the time, and was facing a 1500 mile road trip. Luckily, the relatives brought her out before we started the car.

Honestly Texanna that is not even remotely like this case. Don’t compare yourself to this loser. This baby should be permanently taken away from this stoner and the baby daddy. CPS interfere where they are not needed and seem to never be around situations where they are needed. That needs to change.

i left 1 of my kids at a ski camp we went to every other week (RIVER) ALL 4 KIDS WERE IN THE CAR BUT SHE MUST HAVE GOTTEN OUT WHILE WE WERE LOADING ! WE GOT 20 MILES DOWN THE ROAD BEFORE WE MISSED HER. SHE WAS NOT UPSET JUST SITTING ON THE PORCH WHEN WE GOT BACK. (SHE WAS ABOUT 4) SO IT CAN HAPPEN !

the poor innocent baby. He doesnt deserve a “mother” like her. He doesnt have a good future ahead of him. Come to think of it if BO wins another term, would any children have a decent future. BO has hawked all of their future to China!
ps: I hate to say this but if the toddler stays with her and survives to adulthood, he would most probably end up a drug addict or problematic

I strongly believe that marijuana (pot, merry jane, dope, whatever) should be legal. If you really want to decrease recreational drug use, make it legal, tax the out of it, and use the proceeds for education. Just like cigarette smoking, people will only stop when they WANT to stop.
As you can see, having a law against it sure stopped Ms Pink-Hair from smoking pot, didn’t it? (We really need a sarcasm font…)

I’m in favor of the solution in colonial America. She wants welfare she names the father, DNA verifies it and she acquires a common-law-husband. Both are financially responsible for the child and if her new hubby can’t work, he becomes a Sheriff Joe helper and she gets to attend a similar work-study camp. If she flunks the camp, the child is adopted. It is called individual responsibility and consequences.

So I take it you think what she did is ok? Are you a stoner too? Why shouldn’t people be upset with this sort of behavior from a parent? If you get high at home, not driving and without any child responsibilities is one thing; but to do what she did is wrong, no if’s, and’s or but’s about it!

I feel sorry for her. She is one of the lost ones.
Ever since we took God out of the schools and no longer teach morals, we are seeing more and more of this kind of behavior.
I have no doubt that she needs help, not criticism. She looks so sad and tired. That is not to say that the child must be protected.
But folks, we all had the opportunity to stop this madness long ago. AND WE DIDN’T.
