Results of GOPUSA's Grassroots Survey

HOUSTON (GOPUSA News) -- Below are the results of over 1,700 respondents to GOPUSA's recent survey. The survey was administered to members of GOPUSA's Grassroots Survey Team.

Total Number of Respondents = 1702

Question 1 -- Generally speaking, would you say the country is heading in the right direction or wrong direction?

  • Right direction -- 1%
  • Wrong direction -- 98%
  • Not sure -- 1%

Question 2 -- How has the state of the economy affected you?

  • It has been devastating to me. -- 9%
  • It has affected me greatly. -- 33%
  • It has had some affect. -- 47%
  • The economy has not affected me at all. -- 10%
  • The economy has been good for me. -- 1%

Question 3 -- Please choose the response which best describes how the recent events in Washington have affected you as a Republican.

  • I am motivated to help the Republican Party win back seats in 2010 because they have a better agenda than the Democrats -- 24%
  • I am motivated to help the Republican Party win back seats in 2010 because the Democrats are worse than the Republicans -- 38%
  • I am more discouraged than ever with the Republican Party and not likely to help Republicans in 2010 -- 25%
  • I am through with politics -- 2%
  • Not sure -- 10%

Question 4 -- What is your personal opinion on the practice of earmarks by U.S. representatives and senators?

  • I strongly oppose the practice whether by Republicans or Democrats -- 84%
  • I generally oppose the practice depending on the program -- 12%
  • I generally support the practice depending on the program -- 2%
  • I strongly support the practice whether by Republicans or Democrats -- 1%
  • Not sure -- 1%

Question 5 -- Do you feel that the earmark issue is one that could help Republicans in 2010?

  • Yes, but only if Republicans stop adding their own earmarks -- 68%
  • Yes, because Democrats add more earmarks than Republicans -- 2%
  • No, because I don't think Republicans can stop either, and the party will look like hypocrites -- 27%
  • No, because I believe earmarks are a good practice -- 1%
  • Not sure -- 2%

Question 6 -- Some Republican legislators say that they want to end all earmarks, but add their own since they say not doing so would just allow Democrats to spend more money on their pet projects. Do you believe:

  • This is acceptable as long as they continue pushing legislation to end all earmarks. -- 15%
  • This is unacceptable. Republicans need to eliminate their earmarks even if it leads to more money being spent in Democrat districts. -- 73%
  • Not sure. -- 12%

Question 7 -- How would you describe your political opinion of Barack Obama now as compared to Election Day?

  • Obama is much more conservative than I thought. -- 0%
  • Obama is somewhat more conservative than I thought. -- 2%
  • Obama is somewhat more liberal than I thought. -- 1%
  • Obama is much more liberal than I thought. -- 5%
