Obama scraps visit to wounded troops

BERLIN (AP) -- He was supposed to visit wounded members of the U.S. armed forces during his visit to Germany. But Barack Obama scrapped those plans -- and he's being criticized for it.

His spokesman says Obama decided it would be inappropriate to visit the wounded troops while on a visit funded by his campaign. He says Obama made the decision out of respect for the servicemen and women.

But John McCain's campaign says it was the wrong decision. A McCain spokesman says, "It is never inappropriate to visit our men and women in the military."

The visit with the troops, which had been scheduled for tomorrow, hadn't ever appeared on the schedule of events distributed to reporters traveling with Obama. The first word of it came in the statement that it was canceled.
