WASHINGTON (UPI) -- Some illegal immigrants who later become U.S. citizens could claim Social Security benefits for time worked illegally, U.S. media reports claim.
That's part of a confidential deal reportedly reached between the United States and Mexico, The Washington Times said Thursday.
The agreement would require Social Security to pay billions of dollars in benefits to Mexicans who paid payroll taxes, the Houston Chronicle reported, quoting a senior citizens' group that forced the document's disclosure.
The agreement also would include those granted citizenship through amnesty, the Times reported.
The Social Security Administration said the agreement would cost relatively little, no more than $105 million annually for the first five years.
