WASHINGTON (UPI) -- U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice said Sunday she would fight a subpoena seeking to force her to testify before a congressional panel.
Speaking on ABC's "This Week with George Stephanopoulos," Rice said there are constitutional reasons she does not want to appear before the House Committee on Government Oversight, which seeks to question her about how the White House handled pre-war intelligence when she was national security adviser.
"It's a separation of powers issue -- to testify before a congressional committee is an important constitutional issue," she said.
Committee Chairman Rep. Henry Waxman, D-Calif., has threatened to find Rice in contempt if she refuses to appear.
"Well, that's the chairman's prerogative," Rice said. "I respect the oversight, the oversight responsibilities of Congress, but I frankly think this one has been looked at and looked at and looked at."
