Iraq doesn't like Congress' funding bill

BAGHDAD (UPI) -- The Iraq government criticized the U.S. Congress vote that links war funding to the withdrawal of U.S. troops.

Iraq government spokesman Ali al-Dabbagh said the approved legislation, which U.S. President George Bush has promised to veto, was "negative" and sent the wrong message to insurgents in Iraq, the BBC reported.

"We see it as a loss of four years of sacrifices," Dabbagh said.

The BBC reported that members of Iraq's parliament had varying views on the legislation.

A member from Rebel Shiite cleric Moqtada Sadr's bloc said the congressional vote amounted to an admission of defeat from the United States in Iraq, the BBC reported.

Kurdish MP Mahmoud Othman said Congress was laying the groundwork for the presidential elections, while a Sunni representative said the vote was not the business of Iraq, the BBC reported.
