Bruce Dormier

Bruce Dormier recently retired from a 34 year career serving America as a Federal employee. The last 18 years in civilian management for high tech Navy weapon systems and computer development. He is very proud to have put cutting edge technologies into the hands of our sailors and marines. He feels strongly that The Constitution provides a primary purpose of Federal Government as defender of our Republic and liberty from threats both foreign and domestic.

Bruce was born in Williston ND, the third son of an Assembly of God minister. At 5 months, the family moved to conservative Southeast Idaho where Bruce's large extended family lived. Idaho was where Bruce was raised through graduation from high school. A major part of Bruce's conservative education came at the knee of his grandfather, who in 1910 homesteaded in Idaho to become a very successful producer of Idaho's famous potatoes. Although "just" a farmer, Bruce's grandfather was extremely wise in economics, and state, national and world politics. Bruce learned, paraphrasing Thomas Jefferson's ideal, "that government which governs least, governs best." He believes that modern conservative principles are those gained through logical and diligent thinking, not through emotional reactionary impulses.

In 1968 Bruce was campus Young Republican leader at Northwest College in Kirkland WA. He led a campaign for a campus mock presidential election. Remember, in 1968 a person still had to be 21 to vote, so this election was merely an opinion poll. Bruce persuaded enough students, so Ronald Reagan won that poll with 67%. Can you imagine the tragedies that would have been avoided if Ronald Reagan could have been elected in 1968? The calamity of Watergate! Perhaps the Berlin Wall would have come down a decade earlier. Whew!

Continuing his education at the University of Washington in Seattle, Bruce graduated with a BS in Cartography, minoring in Broadcast Journalism. He soon began his career in Federal service. His career took him to live in metropolitan Washington DC for 19 years, Honolulu HI for 3 years, and San Diego CA for 7 years. His Navy work required frequent trips throughout the U.S., most of Europe, some of east Asia, and the Middle East. He decided to retire to Reno NV, because he loves the seasons and the rugged beauty of Nevada. He also has found some of the friendliest people in Reno, with most quite well informed in government and current events.

Bruce is excited and honored to represent conservative ideals as the GOPUSA Nevada Editor. He wants to help all the citizens realize that American Liberty is in jeopardy and there are extreme socialist organizations within the United States that crave nothing less than elimination of individual freedoms, and all Christian expression. We must shine the light of truth on their agenda. Our schools have become the incubators of revisionist un-American history, vehement anti-Christian indoctrination, and deliberate numbing of the conscious of our youth. Too many parents are unaware of the degree to which undermining of their ideals is conducted in our public schools. It is ironic, because real conservative perspective is the bastion of individual thinking and understanding of liberty. Socialist (liberal or so-called progressive) philosophies are those intolerant of differing opinion.
