We have prayed for the safety of our astronauts countless times. During the Apollo 11 moon landing, astronaut Buzz Aldrin even received communion. Those days are long gone, and now the politically correct mindset has invaded NASA. Our space program no longer allows the use of the name “Jesus” when Christian organizations are announcing their upcoming events. What is doing on here?

As Fox News contributor Todd Starnes points out, “The JSC Praise & Worship Club was directed by NASA attorneys to refrain from using the name ‘Jesus’ in club announcements that appeared in a Space Center newsletter.”

Does that sound kind of ridiculous? If so, just listen to the reasons behind the ban:

NASA issued a statement late Monday:

“NASA does not prohibit the use of any specific religious names in employee newsletters or other internal communications. The agency allows a host of employee-led civic, professional, religious and other organizations to meet on NASA property on employee’s own time. Consistent with federal law, NASA attempts to balance employee’s rights to freely exercise religious beliefs with its obligation to ensure there is no government endorsement of religion. We believe in and encourage open and diverse dialogue among our employees and across the agency.”

Ok, perhaps NASA doesn’t understand the first sentence of its own statement: “NASA does not prohibit the use of any specific religious names in employee newsletters or other internal communications.” And yet, that is exactly what NASA is doing.

The JSC Praise & Worship Club was directed by NASA attorneys to refrain from using the name ‘Jesus’ in club announcements that appeared in a Space Center newsletter.

“It was shocking to all of us and very frustrating,” NASA engineer Sophia Smith told me. “NASA has a long history of respecting religious speech. Why wouldn’t they allow us to put the name Jesus in the announcement about our club?”

According to Starnes, this Christian club has existed since 2001, and there has never been any kind of ban on using the name “Jesus” at all. Now, the club has been told that any future references to Jesus will be censored from publication.

The club’s leadership was told that “NASA would be censoring all future club announcements that featured the name, ‘Jesus’,” Liberty Institute alleged in its complaint letter.

NASA’s legal department explained that including the name ‘Jesus’ within the club’s announcement made that announcement “sectarian” or “denominational.”

This is just outrageous. If NASA allows a wide variety of clubs, then clearly they are not endorsing any of them. To single out the Christian group shows that the PC police have struck again. Why is it that the politically correct leadership in this country goes out of its way to protect every religion except Christianity? Do you think NASA would have a problem if the Muslim group mentioned Allah?
