clock_caseCommon sense (or lack thereof) and political correctness have combined into one single news story, and the result — as you might guess — is an abundance of stupidity. If someone makes something that looks like a bomb and brings it to school, what are school officials supposed to do? What would you do? Well, this particular school took action, and now the school district is being sued for it.

By now, you have likely heard the name Ahmed Mohamed. He’s a 14-year-old student in Irving, Texas who brought a supposedly “homemade” clock to school which looked very much like a bomb in a briefcase to one of his teachers. As noted in the UPI story on GOPUSA, “Mohamed … was handcuffed and taken to an Irving police station after a teacher mistook his clock for a bomb.”

Radical Muslims are blowing people up all over the world. Just recently, also in the Dallas-Ft. Worth area, Muslim gunmen opened fire at event in which a security officer was shot before police could kill the attackers. Is it really that outrageous to err on the side of caution?

Barack Obama, of course, jumped right into the mix and put out this tweet:

Cool clock? First of all, the thing doesn’t even look like a clock. Secondly, the whole story becomes more suspicious as time goes on.

The clock itself does not really appear to be an “invention” of any sort. An analysis at ArtVoice.com shows the clock to simply be an old Radio Shack clock that has been taken out of its case. So why then put it in a briefcase?

Judge Andrew Napolitano on Fox News: “A lot of people, I among them, have to do a mea culpa. I blasted the school, and I blasted the police for overreacting to this. It now appears — I don’t know what they knew at the time — but it now appears as though this was a purposeful hoax for whatever reason we don’t know. If the parents were involved in the hoax, then you have a fraud going on.”

Even Bill Maher has brought some sanity to the discussion. For all those who are claiming that Mohamed was arrested for no other reason than because he is a Muslim, listen to what Maher had to say:

Bill Maher: “He’s a science kid and that’s great. Can we show the clock? Ok, and the people at the school thought it might be a bomb, perhaps because it looks exactly like a f***ing bomb.

Can we have a little perspective about this? Did the teacher really do the wrong thing?”

It’s insane that this kid is becoming a celebrity under the guise of being a “persecuted Muslim.” If the so-called “invention” didn’t look like a bomb, no one would be talking about this. But now, it’s some kind of racial injustice that he was arrested.

I guess the moral of the story is that if a white kid brings a fake bomb to school, teachers and administrators should round him up, especially if he’s a real redneck. Hell, he might even have a Confederate flag in his locker. But if the student is a Muslim teenager with a fake bomb, then the teacher should just assume it’s nothing. After all… seriously… how many Muslim teenagers around the world have killed themselves and others with bombs?

Update… How fast can you “invent” a similar bomb… ummm… clock? Let’s take a look:
