When everything goes according to their grand plan, those on the left are just as happy as they can be. If you go along with their ideas, if you accept their version of what is “normal,” if you push patriotism aside but “embrace diversity,” then all is good. But when Americans do something that doesn’t fit the mold, they go nuts. Just look at the press Rush Limbaugh has received for winning a prestigious children’s book award.
Whether you knew it or not, conservative radio talkshow host Rush Limbaugh authored a children’s book titled: Rush Revere and the Brave Pilgrims: Time-Travel Adventures with Exceptional Americans. The book rose to the top of best-seller lists, and it garnered Limbaugh a nomination as “Author of the Year” from Children’s Choice Book Awards.
Other nominees included Jeff Kinney, Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Hard Luck; Rick Riordan, The House of Hades; Veronica Roth, Allegiant; and Rachel Renee Russell, Dork Diaries 6: Tales from a Not-So-Happy Heartbreaker.
And the winner is…. Rush Limbaugh. That’s right. Limbaugh’s book was the winner, and when you look at the press this received one can easily tell that the left-wing “journalists” were beside themselves.
The Associated Press story on the award announcement started with a simple declaration: “Rush Limbaugh has won a children’s book prize designed to be chosen by kids themselves.” But the very next sentence already calls into question whether there was some funny business going on: “But that doesn’t mean all of his voters were young people.”
The next paragraph of the report lists Limbaugh’s competition and adds, “a book that landed high on the best-seller lists of Amazon.com and other outlets despite limited mainstream coverage.” Hmmmm… despite limited mainstream coverage? As if a book needs the left’s blessing by the so-called “mainstream” media?
The report then asserts that even though the award is supposed to be determined through online votes of children, “adults could easily vote and vote multiple times, a problem not uncommon for Internet competitions.”
The AP reporter interviewed Robin Adelson, who is the executive director of the Children’s Book Council and Every Child a Reader, nonprofit organizations that co-founded the awards seven years ago.
“It’s not as if he received millions of votes and everybody else and received 10,” she said. “It was far, far closer.”
Adelson said total votes this year only increased modestly, from 1.1 million to 1.2 million, and added that voting has generally gone up each year. She emphasized the awards have no mission beyond encouraging kids to read.
So, even though Adelson dismissed any kind of idea of cheating, the story is designed to make readers think that cheating is exactly what happened. How else could Rush Limbaugh win the award?
An NPR posting about Limbaugh’s win, begins with: “Although the book has never been a critical favorite — one review accused it of “disdain for even the most rudimentary standards of storytelling” — it has been an enormous commercial success.” The posting also cited that there were “concerns” about the list of finalists.
It’s no wonder that conservatives have a hard time reaching Americans outside of talk radio and Fox News. Even something that has nothing to do with Washington politics — in this case, a children’s book award — must be attacked simply because the author is conservative. I guess it doesn’t matter that children love the book!
