Poll: NRA more popular than Hollywood

By UPI Staff

UPI - The National Rifle Association is more popular than Hollywood, but most Americans want stricter gun-control laws, an NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll shows.

The powerful lobby for gun makers and gun owners has a 41 percent positive approval rating, while Hollywood and the entertainment industry have a 23 percent favorable rating, the poll found.

The NRA and other critics have blamed the entertainment and video-game industries for contributing to an American culture of violence.

The poll found 34 percent of respondents gave the giant gun-rights group a negative rating, while 46 percent said the same about Hollywood and the entertainment industry.

At the same time, 56 percent of Americans said laws covering the sale of firearms should be made stricter, the poll found.

Thirty-five percent said the laws should be kept as they are, with no changes, and 7 percent said gun laws should be loosened.

Views about guns were closely tied to whether the respondent households had a gun, the poll found. Sixty-seven percent of people in homes without guns favored stricter laws, while 44 percent in homes with guns favored making them stricter.

The survey found 41 percent of Americans said someone in their household owned a gun.

On other topics, President Barack Obama had a 52 percent approval rating ahead of his second inauguration Monday, while Congress had a 14 percent approval rating.

The No. 1 thing respondents said they'd want to tell Obama is to create jobs. The No. 1 thing they'd want to tell leaders in Congress -- compromise and work together.

The poll of 1,000 adults was conducted Jan. 12-15 and has a margin of error of plus or minus 3.1 percentage points.

And I am suppose to believe a poll that polled 1000 people? And that NBC/Wallstreet Journal did the poll?
One thing … I do not believe in polls!

“. . .most Americans want stricter gun-control laws, an NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll shows.”

Pure propaganda! Law abiding people are not asking for more “gun control” laws because they know they are the only ones affected by such restrictions.

Until the government develops a plan to disarm the gangs, criminals, and thugs roaming the streets, the people know that it is only interested in disarming the law-abiding in order to have more control over them so the government can do whatever it wants with no opposition.

Another way of saying it… “Disarming innocent people does not protect innocent people.” Alas, it’s much, much easier for politicians to disarm innocent, law abiding citizens than criminals. So, by disarming the majority of the citizens, they’re HOPING they’ll disarm the criminals as well… they’re dreaming, of course.

Also, most of the time, the government agencies which we are supposed to rely upon, are most of the time too late to prevent crimes from happening.

By the way, so much attention is focused on this gun control issue – What ever happened to the investigation on the Benghazi incident? Is it being swept off under the rug?

Most politicians are driven by polls rather than by principles. They want to hold onto power and be elected rather than uphold the Constitution, rely on character, logic, reason, or truth.

We may have differing opinions, or view on varius topics, but one thing we can all agree upon is:

It is time to start supporting politicans who have principles and reject those who do not.

I do not trust polls also.
In an informal poll by the American Coalition for Financial and Ecological Responsibility of 2500 Americans across all demographics. When asked 77% responded that we have enough gun regulations. Also 99% thought that the regulations we have on the books should be better enforced while the remaining did not respond. The NRA got a 74% approval rating while Hollywood’s approval rating was at 19%. Both the President and Congress received approval ratings lower than 30%. The Media received a 21% approval.
I believe that poll numbers can be twisted into whatever you want them to be and when polls are taken in one region the data is not applicable to other regions.
I myself quit getting my news from the old standard sources because of the very apparent media bias. I find it better to look through it all on the internet and decide for myself.

Oneyeopn, that sounds like a poll I could trust. I couldn’t believe American People had obama’s rate over 50% now in an article I just read.
obama’s news conference with the Newtown children made me SICK.
Something else, why doesn’t obama help emanual in Chicago with their problems. From what I hear, Chicago has a tough gun law!

Are we to be ruled by polls now… rather that our elected representatives? If so then our constitutional republic has now become a democracy, with chaos and dictatorship sure to soon follow!
