Shooting Occurs at Conservative Think Tank

By GOPUSA Staff

A man opened fire in the lobby of the Washington, DC-based Family Research Council. A security guard was shot in the melee in which the shooter was taken down by the guard and several other people until the police arrived. The Family Research Council is a conservative, Christian think tank, and it is still unclear as to the motives of the shooter.

Here's the report as it's developing from Fox News:

A security guard at the Family Research Council's headquarters in Washington, D.C. is being hailed as a hero after he stopped a gunman posing as an intern, taking a bullet in the arm before wrestling the suspect to the ground.

The gunman entered the lobby of the organization's Chinatown headquarters around 10:45 and expressed disagreement with the conservative group's policy positions, Fox News has learned. When the guard, who was not identified, asked him where he was going, he opened fire, according to police.

"The security guard here is a hero, as far as I'm concerned," D.C. Police Chief Cathy Lanier said. "He did his job. The person never made it past the front."

According to the news report, the suspect "made statements regarding their policies, and then opened fire with a gun striking a security guard."

Sources told Fox New that after guard took away his gun, the suspect said, "Don't shoot me, it was not about you, it was what this place stands for."

Authorities were treating the attack as a case of domestic terrorism, although James McJunkin, the head of the FBI's Washington Field Office, said authorities do not yet know the gunman's motive.

The Washington Post quotes James McJunkin, the head of the FBI's Washington Field Office, as saying they don't yet know why the suspect started shooting.

"We don't know enough about him or his circumstances to determine what his connection is to this group [the research council] or his mental state, or what he was doing or thinking of doing," McJunkin said. "So we're going to try to sort this all out, pull the evidence together, do all the interviews we can."

McJunkin and Lanier said they did not yet know whether the FBI or the D.C. Police would take the lead on the shooting investigation.

Tony Perkins, the president of the Family Research Council, issued a statement which reads, "The police are investigating this incident. Our first concern is with our colleague who was shot today. Our concern is for him and his family."

In a bizarre report by the Associated Press, the journalist closes the news story by saying that Perkins was "an outspoken defender of Chick-fil-A President Dan Cathy's public stand against same-sex marriage."

What does Chick-fil-A have to do with this story at all? Currently... absolutely nothing. It's just strange what some people will report.

--------

Update: 3:17 pm CDT

Ok... it looks like the AP reporter might have been dropping a hint in his story. Why not just come out and say something rather than make some vague reference to Chick-fil-A. Here's a report by Channel 4 NBC Washington:

Authorities found two loaded magazines with 15 rounds each in the suspect's backpack, as well as Chik-Fil-A promotional materials, NBC4's Jackie Bensen reported.

Fast food empire Chik-Fil-A has been at the center of a recent controversy over gay marriage. Chik-Fil-A President Dan Cathy recently spoke out against it, spurring protests, boycotts and a same-sex "kiss in." Meanwhile, supporters of Chik-Fil-A flooded franchises across the country on Chik-Fil-A Appreciation Day Aug. 1.

We will keep you posted.

The surprise here is the perp is anti-conservative and yet the media is lableing him as a domestic terrorist. Let’s see now! His intention, as he vocalized, is anti-FOX and anti-FRC.

Wouldn’t that make him a liberal? Does he vote demoncrap? We may never know. Now, if he was a GOP conservative the media would already be broadcasting that.

Without a doubt he IS a domestic terrorist. Is it possible the media finally got something right?

I think the spin is going to be the GOP, conservatives, and TeaPartiers had so frightened and confused him that he felt he had to do something about it. And the gun? Betcha he bought it at a gun show 1without any background check and no one who evaluated his mental; state. Therefore, gunshows are equally guilty for his behavior. What about the Chick-Fil-A brochures? Eating their chicken helped poison his mind so he did not realize what was happening until the officer took him down.

Anyone want to make a bet this will be one of the liberal media tactics?

This is what is called “Liberal” and “Gay” tolerance. They do not tolerate any view but their own.

Also I have noticed that only NBC is reporting this here in CA. ABC was first on scene first. According to them. It was not on the local web site and no links were available as of 2pm PDT. The same for CBS.

I don’t think they like exposing intolerant gay liberals. I also think it lacks poor judgement on ABC and CBS. They are in the tank for Obama!

Jwarren, How many TEA party members can you verify who have committed these types of crimes? It should be obvious to everyone that an “extreme right-wing Republican” would never think of attacking a conservative, Christian organization that opposes same-sex marriage and abortion. I agree with y’all who said jwarren was being sarcastic. It’s just the way he said it.

Insted of “I bet the shooter was an extreme right wing …” drop the verb WAS and insert WILL BE ACCUSED. It now reads “I bet the shooter will be accused an extreme right wing Republican and Tea Party member just like the lame stream media always describes a perp when a gun attack occurs.” That simple grammatical change makes the insinuation perfectly clear.

By the way, I have a BSEd from Texas Tech, an MSEd from USC, and MA Eng (concentration in grammar) from SWTSU and taught college level English.

Well, all those degrees (I have some, too.), especially the “MA Eng (concentration in grammar)” which allowed you to teach college-level English, didn’t do you much good, now, did they? For you should have written “Instead”, placed a comma after “reads”, inserted “of being” before “an extreme right wing [...]“, hyphenated “right wing”, as in your context it is used as an adjective, then placed another comma after “member”.

You, therefore, now have, “Instead [....]. It now reads “I bet the shooter will be accused OF BEING an extreme right-wing Republican and Tea Party member, just like the lame stream media always describes a perp when a gun attack occurs.”

Of course, you should also hyphenate ‘college’ and ‘level’ when advising of your qualifications.

“Y’all” is acceptable as a colloquialism.

Sigh. People who live in glass houses and all that drivel…

What scares me is this just might be the precursor to obummer’s “October Surprise”. Just as Occupy Wallstreet was a “dress rehearsal” for possible Sept/Oct domestic upheavel.

BHO has prepared himself for this. Widespread domestic terrorism will result in ALL American citizens (and those NOT citizens) demanding government action. This will allow bho to address America – with a serious expression – stating we are in a “national emergency”, that he will take immediate action, but “… it breaks my heart, but – due to this emergency – I am suspending all elections”.

I hope and pray that I am totally wrong about this, but all the puzzle pieces fit that way.

Right now, the polls have bho & Romney neck-and-neck. If bho drops further down, look for more incidents. If he drops WAY down, look for OW dogs to be turned loose. If that happens, the Watts AND other race riots will look like child’s play in comparison.

If any assumption would be made, ‘tho incorrectly so, it was not “groups” but individuals across this country who individually chose to let their voices be heard re the discriminatory bigotry shown toward Dan Cathy of Chick-fil-A’s right to express his opinion that was based upon his Christian worldview that obviously represented the Christian worldview of many Americans across this great nation. – Judy Doorn

All the while ignoring the possibility that conservatives will actually want the crazy people taken away, starting with those liberals who always seem unable to criticize others who take physical action to support liberal goals. It’s both Georges. Bush and Zimmerman. Shame on them. (btw, for those who don’t recognize it, these are sarcastic remarks. Lol)

The shooter has been identified as Floyd Lee Corkins II, 28…ABC Reporter Brian Ross should be all over this, because I think if he did a little research, Brian may find out that Corkins is a member of a white, homosexual supremist group, that is opposed to the slaughter of chickens by Chick-Fil-a. And based on his picture, Floyd may also be part of an extremist branch of weight watchers in Herndon, Va. The question is, will Brian Ross have the courage to bring this news out!

Weight Watchers? Aren’t they that liberal/progressive group that moochelle obungle belongs to? I bet her hubby called her a fat arse and she hires a fatty to ummm… shoot on sight any person who weighed less than himself! It was fatty discrimination that drove the poor man’s mind wild and was caused by them darn TEA bigots.

THE UPDATE ON THE STORY: Why does every lib press source report that Dan Cathy spoke AGAINST homosexual marriage? He only stated his belief in Judeo-Christian marriage.

The guy bought his 9mm Sig legally five days ago. Apparently he was not aware of DC’s policy on concealed handguns, or he certainly would not have done this.

Rush, Sean, Mark, and the rest of the radio talk-show host got blamed for the Gabrielle Giffords shooting in Arizona. Will Ed Schultz, Chris Matthews or Rachel Maddow get blamed for this shooting? I doubt it.

I wish the media would get it together and use the correct name and business type in there head line. Then this is just the liberal media leading people to believe that all conservatives are Christian fanatics trying to push there own unconstitutional agenda upon the masses.

Hey you don’t want to convert to Christianity, no problem. You may just burn in hell, or not.
You refuse to convert to Islam or decide to quit Islam after you join, OFF WITH YOUR HEAD.
You can tuck it under your arm & star in the next remake of Ichabod Crane & the Headless Horseman
