He's baaaack! Just when you though democracy was safe, Former Washington DC Mayor Marion Barry is running for another term of office on the DC City Council. Having turned 75 and suffering from multiple health issues (prostate cancer, a kidney transplant and a gunshot wound), it was thought that Barry would consider retiring.
Barry is full of spice and vinegar, still putting the blame on others for his "issues" and "challenges" which seem to multiply rather than disperse with time. Whether stalking a girlfriend or making outrageous statements or using government resources for questionable activities, Barry seems to continue to be a scandal magnet. And the 8th Ward continues to elect him into office.
His campaign path will not be free and clear, however, with several candidates stepping up to try to really represent the 8th Ward of the District. One opponent in particular hits the nail on the head:
"The same problems people had before he came to the city, they still have ... jobs, housing, the same problems," said Sandra Seegars, a longtime community activist who's running against Barry. "Ward 8 has not really improved."
Hmmmmmmmm. Wonder why?

Vetting their candidates might help, not giving them a corvette!

I suppose it beats having a real job with little influence. He has to get his money for drugs and prostitutes somewhere. Those things are expensive.

You’ve got that right! I remember reading about an incident in a restaurant where he and his woman friend were engaged in sexual behavior right out in public view. How anyone could actually permit this guy to run for any governmental position should be a crime in itself.

Every time the discussion of granting Statehood to Washington DC comes-up, all one needs to do is point out that the residents of DC keep electing Marion Berry to office….whenever he’s not in prison, that is. Can the rest of America trust a voting population with such a mindset as “that” with the right to put 2 US Senators in our Congress?
