What is going through these soldiers' minds?

By The Political Commentator

The need for some cojones in Libya

I wrote "The need for some international cojones in Libya!" yesterday after weeks of the Obama administration's handling, or more accurately non-handling of the Middle East crisis.

Specifically the article discussed statements that President Obama and Defense Secretary Gates had recently made about Libya, implementation of a no-fly zone and war in general.

Soon after writing that I saw a tape of the President getting on Air Force One, giving the customary salute to the soldiers at the foot of the stairs as the Commander in Chief of our nation when it struck me.

What is going through these soldiers minds as they salute?

I present below an incomplete list of the messages sent and decisions put forth by this President and his administration over the past 2+ years:

  • The anti-military statements that have come out of this Administration;
  • The rules of engagement that handcuff soldiers and make a dangerous job that much more dangerous;
  • Ceding our national security to the United Nations;
  • The refusal to term attacks as terrorist and the perpetrators as terrorists. This week in Germany where two soldiers were killed immediately comes to mind;
  • Telegraphing the dates we will be withdrawing from combat;
  • Making a political game out of the decision to deploy additional troops to Afghanistan;
  • The initial decision to hold terror trials in New York City instead of before a military tribunal;
  • The implementation of the phrase "overseas contingency operations" and removal of the term "war on terror" from the vernacular;
  • Bowing to foreign leaders and apologizing to the world for the actions of the United States;
  • The inept way that this Administration and this President have handled the current crisis in the Middle East;
  • The fact that this President seems almost ashamed of America's superpower status;
  • Policy decisions that seemed to have been made due to pressure placed on the Administration by other nations. The scrapping of our missile defense program in eastern Europe due to the displeasure of the Russians comes to mind...

Given the partial list above, what is going through these soldiers minds when they are compelled to salute President Obama as the Commander in Chief of the United States?

    Where are the bullets for my rifle, Mr.President? Will we have to bribe the Taliban to buy cartridges for our guns? —US combat soldier in Afhanistan

    What the  …k are we doing in this foreign soil when we should be deployed along the US/ Mexico  border? —US trooper

    Why are we in protecting Iraq’s border? The war here is officially over so tell me, why we are sitting like lumps on a log when we ought to be  in the USA protecting our civilian American brothers and sisters from the drug cartels, desease -ridden border jumpers, and every other kind of illegal alien that is threatening to overturn our way of life!   — US combat troop sitting on a log in Iraq reading mail from back home that includes a ‘support our troops’ sticker.

    When I was enlisted, I had no choice but to salute officers.  Sometimes I saluted the officer wearing the uniform, other times I just saluted the uniform.  Where this fraud in charge is concerned, I am not so sure I would salute at all.  I also took the oath to defend my country from all enemies, foreign and domestic.  I consider obama to be the worst domestic enemy this country has ever seen.  Yes, that oath also said obey the CIC but this fraud is not a commander.  I do not think I could dirty my uniform by saluting this piece of trash calling himself President.

    Obama is the worst commander and chief. At least I have the comfort of knowing that oath of the Armed Services is to the United States and the Constitution not to the president. I’m sure that Obama is just as, if not more detested than Jimmy was when I served. He is scum and will never be more than scum no matter what he does!

    What are they thinking? “I hope no one takes a shot at him, I do NOT want to take a bullet for him.”
    “What’s for dinner, I wonder?”

    Perhaps they are thinking:
    For those of us who enlisted and fought for it.
    “FREEDOM” has the taste, that you the protected Mr: President will never know!
