Mike Huckabee 2.0
Powerline
Mike Huckabee came to Washington on Wednesday to promote his new book A SImple Christmas. This was part of a book tour that will encampass 64 cities.
Along with maybe 15 to 20 journalists, I met Huckabee at an event hosted by the American Spectator. The question on most of our minds was whether he intends to run for president in 2012. Huckabee claimed he "has no idea," and will make up his mind after the 2010 elections.
The 64 city book tour - like the book itself -- is a nice vehicle for promoting whatever presidential ambitions Huckabee may have. And attending Wednesday's session gave me the opportunity to think about what kind of candidate, and president, Huckabee would make.
As to his candidacy, I believe it might well be formidable. Huckabee is as good as I've seen in explaining his positions in easy to understand but compelling terms. Consider this explanation (which I'll quote from memory) of the inter-generational theft inherent in much of President Obama's program:

All I can say is that I haven't suffered through all of this to see a Republican version of Jimmy Carter elected in 2012.
If that's the best this country can do then it is indeed OVER.

Re: Mike Huckabee 2.0
Huckabee is another smoothie. Some people will vote for him because he smiles when he talks, regardless of the words he is saying. Others will vote for him because they like his TV program. The only way I would ever vote for him is if he were the only other candidate than Obama on a ballot. And then I'd be gagging.

My thoughts exactly Terri. I can't understand why folks even on this forum think the Huckster is the answer to our woes. He is a self-serving creep. I've watched part of his pathetic and very boring show on Fox, ya gotta think the folks at Fox are regretting the decision to ever put that bone head on the TV.
People, you need to look a little deeper at the Huckster. Just because he is a Christian and claims to be a conservative doesn't make it so. We just elected a liar, we don't need another one.

Huckabee proposes to restore our standing in the world "by showing the kind of respect that other nations would want and deserve." Huckabee explained that "you treat others the way you'd like to be treated;

Wow! He sounds like Carter/Obama Junior.
These Foreign Policy infants need to disappear. If I were a magician I'd make it happen.

My story today is on Mike Huckabee's enduring political strength, and on his views of Mitt Romney, Pat Toomey, and other Republicans who get more respect than he does.
<snip>
“A factor that I’ve got to look at is [that] it means walking away from what I’m doing ,” he said. “I’d have to completely walk away from it and not get it back — they’re not going to keep the seat warm for you. And the other thing: Not many of us can forgo an income for a couple of years.”
<snip>
Then there are the attacks. Huckabee reads everything written about him and asks his daughter to explain attacks on the obscurest blogs.

Better keep your day job, Huck!
Great! Maybe she can explain my comment to you.

Huckabee is not a fiscal conservative. He will just make the Republicans look bad. He is all about taxes, entitlements and amnesty.

Re: Mike Huckabee 2.0
My two cents worth here, but I’ve voted for ‘none of the above’ rather than Mikester in ‘08! I was going to vote for Mitt, but I lived in Indiana and he had already dropped out. I was going to vote for Bob Barr, but Mclame decided to take Sarah along and I immediately chose HER!
Huckabee is an arrogant, self-serving! IF he is selected in ‘12, I’ll vote libertarian or something else, but NOT Republican or democrap!

I can't agree more terri, this would be as bad as their last selection for us to choose in mccain!!
if they do the party might as well toss their shingle down the well, it won't be worth ever mentioning again!!
