Default House passes health care bill

By DAVID ESPO
Associated Press
November 7, 2009

WASHINGTON (AP) -- In a victory for President Barack Obama, the Democratic-controlled House narrowly passed landmark health care legislation Saturday night to expand coverage to tens of millions who lack it and place tough new restrictions on the insurance industry. Republican opposition was nearly unanimous.

The 220-215 vote cleared the way for the Senate to begin debate on the issue that has come to overshadow all others in Congress.

A triumphant Speaker Nancy Pelosi likened the legislation to the passage of Social Security in 1935 and Medicare 30 years later.

Well, isn't this just ducky??? So much for the 72 hours that we would have to look at this bill, so much for the massive protests against this bill, and SO MUCH FOR our representatives representing us. I guess it is true----we now work for them, not visa-versa. We are in the proverbial hand basket, wave bye-bye America!!!!

Well, Rep. Dingell, which is it? 96% or "everyone"? And why does this wondrous bill not cover everyone, as promised?

I sent a second e-mail to Nancy Pelosi. The first was to convey my unhappiness that the final bill was not available for the public to read prior to the vote, as she had promised it would be. The one tonight is asking when we will get to read the final version, since we'll be paying for it. She won't answer, of course, but I might as well pose the question.

The Democrats are begging to get thrown out of office. What may look like victory may turn into a major defeat.

We've lost a battle, but we haven't lost the war. We have to get all over our senators now like a duck on a junebug. There are only 100 of them, as opposed to 435 in the House. We ought to be able to swamp them.

Thanks for the Final Vote Tally Here link, lpara. I started from there to find that the RINO who voted for the health insurance takeover bill is Anh ("Joseph") Cao, LA-2. I went to his web site only long enough to locate LA-2 on a map (central New Orleans).

I will support any Conservative --- preferably a Republican but an Independent or a Democrat will do --- who challenges Cao in 2010; my credit card is still warm from two trips to DC. Since the 2nd District of Louisiana is so close, I'll even volunteer to go there to work for a challenger.

Laurie, thanks for posting the Tally. I've sent it out to friends all over the country asking them to remember next election time who voted for this bill, and to encourage their friends to start contacting their senators on Monday.

Dang, that was close. So close to defeating it you could almost taste it. Just three stinking votes!

I also remember Crap and Tax barely squeaking by in the House by an even narrower margin. It seems like the country is walking on the edge of a razor, teetering between falling on the side of freedom or the dark side of Communism and authoritarianism.

This is like losing a long, hard fought basketball game on a 50' shot at the buzzer. So close you could almost touch it and then it slips out of your grasp! I am so angry and disillusioned with my government.

I already expressed my displeasure with the Communist who misrepresents me in the House, for all the good it will do. I hope it doesn't get me visit from the Brown Shirts.
