Krauthammer: The Myth of ’08, Demolished

Sure, Election Day 2009 will scare moderate Democrats and make passage of Obamacare more difficult. Sure, it makes it easier for resurgent Republicans to raise money and recruit candidates for 2010. But the most important effect of Tuesday’s elections is historical. It demolishes the great realignment myth of 2008.

In the aftermath of last year’s Obama sweep, we heard endlessly about its fundamental, revolutionary, transformational nature. How it was ushering in an FDR-like realignment for the 21st century in which new demographics — most prominently, rising minorities and the young — would bury the GOP far into the future. One book proclaimed “The Death of Conservativism,” while the more modest merely predicted the terminal decline of the Republican party into a regional party of the Deep South or a rump party of marginalized angry white men.

I agree with Krauthammer. How the Dems could have messed up so badly has made me wonder where the heck their brains are.

I think this is why you saw so many people being called, "insane" or "crazy". I think it didn't take long for people to realize that this people were out of control. One bill after another with larger and larger spending attached and the threat of energy being rationed, the price going sky-high plus all the lesser bills (but still important) passed under the radar.

It was like being under assault with the incoming so thick and fast you could hardly assimilate all of it and certainly couldn't duck and cover.

November ’08 was one-shot, one-time, never to be replicated.

Charie - it seems their heads are still up their rather large rumps cuz they (Ovomit, Pigloser and friends) feel they didn't try hard enough to ignore America and are trying even harder to shove this down our throats. If they manage this, (or even if they fail) we need to send them packing along with their loser friends, the RINOs!

I just hope and pray that there is an equally strong or stronger yet political realignment back to the Right in 2010.

Despite what others may think, I believe even the Dems realized this was a fluke and that they had only this one shot to quickly remake America in their Marxist image because they would never get another chance like that, when the stars and planets were in perfect alignment for them to implement their agenda. That is why they try to cram so much through in such little time. They know perfectly well that their time is limited and if they don't fundamentally change the way the country is run now, in this, their one chance, they never will. Or at least not until there is another perfect realignment of politics favorable to their evil deeds. They hope to do so much political and diplomatic and social change to the US in their diminishing window of opportunity that even when they are given the boot soon, it will be much too late for their successors to steer a clear path back to the right. They wish to do all they can to tip us over the edge on the slippery slope down to Socialism so that even if conservatives win the next few elections, it will be difficult, if not impossible for us to claw our way back out of the abyss.
