Democrats say elections won't stop health care
By DAVID ESPO
Associated Press
November 5, 2009
WASHINGTON (AP) -- Far from chastened by off-year election setbacks, congressional Democrats vowed no let-up in the drive to pass controversial health care Wednesday, arguing that the way to regain voter trust was to complete what they started in more prosperous political times.
Any suggestion that "we ought to run like scalded dogs from trying to fix health care for this country is wrong. I believe the judgment might be more punishing if we throw in the towel because it's difficult," said North Dakota Rep. Earl Pomeroy, a political moderate and supporter of the legislation.
Speaker Nancy Pelosi hopes to have legislation on the House floor for a vote on Saturday. There is no timetable in the Senate, where the overhaul's ultimate fate is in considerably more doubt, but supporters gave no indication that the election results had complicated the challenge facing Majority Leader Harry Reid.

Re: Democrats say elections won't stop health care
Pelosi's getting to be the American version of "Baghdad Bob". She either won't admit the truth or wouldn't know it if it smacked her in the face. It's probably the former, though, otherwise what's with the Saturday vote? She's not above pulling any kind of shenanigans to get her way. And where does she get this crap about the district not having gone Democratic since the Civil War? The 23rd District of New York has only existed within its present boundaries since 2003 and has been represented by a Democrat four times since 1979. One of these days Nancy's going to get hers and it won't be soon enough for me.

Unless something dramatic happens, I fear health care all 2,000 pages is about to be shoved downour throats. This isn't about health care it's about turning our great republic into a third world socialist nation with clenched fist government control over every aspect of our lives. When it comes to this bill, anyone who says otherwise is a liar, stupid or a hand out, begging looser!

Re: Democrats say elections won't stop health care
When Gibbs was asked if he thought the health care bill would pass this year, he said it would, but when asked with the 60 votes needed, he stammered only that it would pass.
Seems to me that the Democrats are going to cram this legislation down our throats whether we like it or not through any procedure they can find that will get it done!

Umm..........er..... ... bad headline? Nothing stopped health care. We still have health care in this country. Good health care.
I hope Republicans/Conservatives in NoDak were listening to that empty-headed congressman, Pomeroy, and took action as soon as he got those stupid words out of his mouth. He's a moderate like Obama is a "moderate".
Just found this at WaPo:
Quote:
|
Earl Pomeroy has voted with a majority of his Democratic colleagues 98.0% of the time during the current Congress. This percentage does not include votes in which Pomeroy did not vote.
|
Of course he would be a "moderate" in AP parlance.
Maybe I should have posted this in "The Media" thread.

That's exactly what I've been thinking. This administration couldn't care less about really fixing health care. They've picked this issue in order to get a foothold in their effort to grab as much power as possible.
