Default AARP to Endorse House Healthcare Bill

AARP to Endorse House Healthcare Bill - AP

In a coup for House Democrats, AARP will endorse sweeping healthcare overhaul legislation headed for a history-making floor vote, officials told The Associated Press on Wednesday.

An endorsement from the seniors' lobby was critical when then-President George W. Bush pushed the Medicare prescription drug benefit through a closely divided Congress in 2003. House Democratic leaders are hoping it will work the same political magic for them as they strive to deliver on President Barack Obama's signature issue.

An announcement from the 40-million member group is expected Thursday, said officials with knowledge of the group's decision. They spoke on condition of anonymity because the endorsement is not official yet.

If the AARP membership puts up with this, then they, AARP, Obama-Pelosi-Reid and the rest of the lousy Democrat Party all deserve each other.

Thumbs down Re: AARP to Endorse House Healthcare Bill

Are they still around? I would've thought they'd be bankrupt by now. Who is still sending money to AARP?

I write columns for the San Diego Newsroom. In my research of HR 3200, I found there is a kick-back component to the AARP. It is becoming clear this is still in the new 1,990 page bill.

Here is an exerpt from the article:

Quote:
The AARP and the Health Care PackageIn 2008, AARP generated $652.7 million in revenues by selling Medigap supplemental Medicare insurance, accounting for over 60 percent of the group's total income. Medigap is a competitive alternative to Medicare Advantage (run by private insurance companies) as a stopgap insurance for the elderly. At present, AARP’s Medigap and Medicare Advantage, are required to pay-out 85 percent of premiums to claims. If the House Democrats health care bill HR 3200 becomes law, Medigap will be allowed to reduce their payouts to 65 percent, increasing AARP’s profitability by 20 percent. In other words, AARP stands to profit handsomely from HR 3200, a bill they purport not to officially support.

Spurious, disgusting organization. I dumped them when they signed on to George Bush's hideous Medicare prescription drug plan.

A friend sent me a piece written by a researcher with the NIH and which appears in the American Thinker. It's called "Another Failed Presidency" and I think you all might find it interesting. Wonder how long he'll be working at the NIH after this starts circulating.

Wow! This is the way to keep their membership happy, NOT!

I venture to say most members right now are still there because they have AARP's insurance. I know there are other insurances for retirees but they have to get the word out, much as AARP does.

The AARP insurance is Liberty Mutual. These AARP members can negotiate their own damn insurance with Liberty Mutual and it wouldn't decrease the size of the pool. They are just to stupid to do any thinking on their own.

The AMA at first endorsed the earlier health care bill because it blocked a 21% cut in Medicare fees doctors would receive in 2010, as well as further cuts in the future.

Lo and behold, when they found out that the payment fix wasn't in the new bill and they had been used and had by this administration when they needed them most to side with them in public.

Same thing happened when they used Snowe and Moderate Dems who thought the 'public option' was not going to be in the bill in order to get it passed and then left EVERYTHING as it was originally written!

AARP is a rat in this administration pack going for their own billions they will curry and against their own constituents! They are reprehensible!!

Re social-isms #3 on clear conflict of interest:

GOP Congressman Questions AARP Endorsement of Pelosi Health-Care Bill as Possible Conflict of Interest

Sure it's a conflict of interest, but AARP doesn't care. Obama doesn't care. The media doesn't care. The media doesn't care. ...did I say 'the media doesn't care'?
