Republican Leaders Seeing the Light and Going Conservative?
Bobby Eberle
The Loft at GOPUSA
There is something fascinating occurring in the state of New York. In a special election for the state's 23rd congressional district, some Republican leaders are bucking the Republican Party establishment and supporting the Conservative Party's candidate, Doug Hoffman.
Polls show Hoffman surging in these closing days. The election is on Tuesday. The Republican candidate -- the one supported by the establishment -- is more liberal than almost half of the Democrats in the state legislature. Rather than sticking up for conservative values, so-called Republican "leaders" have once again gone with a pick that doesn't represent the true Republican Party. Perhaps now, with some Republican office holders turning away from this approach and supporting the "true" Republican, we can send a message that conservative leadership is what America is looking for!

Re: Republican Leaders Seeing the Light and Going Conservative?
I admire Hoffman. He is doing what we should all do; stick to our principles and let the Republican Party follow us.
In my opinion Newt Gingrich blew it. Newt is saying that the "label" is more important than the message. All the voters who stayed home the last election are saying that the message is more important. Newt should stand up and say "I blew it". He should announce that voting for a democrat, no matter what letter is after his name, is not what being a Republican is all about.
Let's build a party on principles, not build our principles around a party.

Re: Republican Leaders Seeing the Light and Going Conservative?
I think Gingrich is angry at no longer being an elected leader. So, he's doing damage in a VERY passive-aggressive way, "But, but she's says she's Republican!"
He's scum, always has been always will be. He can be a BRILLIANT politician, so this vicious move is obviously one done in a passive-aggressive way, so as to hurt the party he feels rejected him, but keeps him looking like a saint.....

Re: Republican Leaders Seeing the Light and Going Conservative?
I'm not sure that Gingrich is being vicious. Perhaps he just wanted to see how many would follow him down the Primrose Path.
I'm sorry to see Boehner backing Scuzzyfuzzy. She must have wandered into the Republican Party by accident. Actually, I think she has an (R) after her name because her district won't elect someone with a (D) after his/her name. It's what Spectre :ghost1: did for many years.
I keep reading blogs and articles that Conservatives had better not get too confident because most people don't want their stupid conservative ideals.
I really hate to burst their little bubbles, but yes, most people are conservatives in the way they live.
I am, again, going to suggest that our leaders move their butts out of D.C., where the air is so permeated by Liberalism that it's hardly breatheable! And I don't mean moving into gated communities where they never see or talk to any of the "commoners". You know................ like us.

Re: Republican Leaders Seeing the Light and Going Conservative?
The district where Hoffman is running is a Republican district. A Republican would be expected to win in this district since they always have. Hoffman is a Republican, just not the choice of the 12 county leaders who picked the official GOP candidate. The big story will be if this longtime Republican district is lost to a Democrat.
From John Gizzi and Human Events:

At this point, signs are strong that the district that has sent a Republican to Congress without interruption since 1870 will now choose Conservative Party nominee Hoffman over state legislator Scozzafava and Democrat Bill Owens.
|
Gingrich knows that the party that holds the majority controls the agenda, chairs the committees and can prevent Obama's agenda from getting out of committee, much less receiving a floor vote. Taking back the House = Obama agenda dead in the water.
Gingrich's miscalculation, IMO, was in not recognizing that Hoffman's election would also give Republicans another chair toward the majority and that he would be far more popular with the electorate.

Sorry, RW I beg to differ, you may know more about politics than I do but I just don't see Newt as "scum". I am probably the only person on this forum that still respects him. I'm not happy him and the GOP leaders have supported Scovwhatever, but I don't see anyone in the congress supporting Hoffman. Maybe they are bound by RNC rules or something. If I was voting, I would cast my vote for Hoffmann too, but only if the polls were showing him ahead. If Scovvo... was ahead in the poll, I'd vote for her. A majority in the House is the most important thing.

Yes, exactly. I'd like to know where Hoffmann was when the committee selected the republican candidate.

Re: Republican Leaders Seeing the Light and Going Conservative?
I hate to say it but I think the only solution is to vote against any candidate who is Democrat or Republican. Some how they have to get the message that none of them represent us, the conservative.

Sorry, RW I beg to differ, you may know more about politicsNo, I prolly don't know more, but I see him as a POLITICIAN/SHOWMAN.
His contract with America, was a fine piece of showmanship. It worked, yes, but it was showmanship.
As a man I admire greatly once said, "if a man cannot be faithful to his wife, he won't be faithful to his country." Harry Truman.
Newt's endorsement of Scuzzawazzawuzza, a prime example of his continued unfaithfulness, this time to his party and country.

Re: Republican Leaders Seeing the Light and Going Conservative?
Because of th Republican Party's retreat from conservatism, I have not donated to the RNC or the California Republican Committee since the 2008 election. I prefer to support individual conservative candidates.
