Morris: Obama Will Repeal Medicare
By Dick Morris
July 13, 2009
Obama's health care proposal is, in effect, the repeal of the Medicare program as we know it. The elderly will go from being the group with the most access to free medical care to the one with the least access.
Indeed, the principal impact of the Obama health care program will be to reduce sharply the medical services the elderly can use. No longer will their every medical need be met, their every medication prescribed, their every need to improve their quality of life answered.
It is ironic that the elderly -- who were so vigilant when President Bush proposed to change Social Security -- are so relaxed about the Obama health care proposals. Bush's Social Security plan, which did not cut their benefits at all, aroused the strongest opposition among the elderly. But Obama's plan, which will totally gut Medicare and replace it with government-managed care and rationing, has elicited little more than a yawn from most senior citizens.

J42ERRY - all the AARP reps are selling insurance. It is amazing how many of my contemporaries are willing to pay annual dues to be on marketing contact lists. It's no wonder seniors are targeted by SCAM artists; as a group we paint bullseyes on ourselves.

Re: Morris: Obama Will Repeal Medicare
Ditto on AARP. Never ever got a reply to my letter of complaint regarding the ad portraying police intimidating elderly motorists to buy their insurance product after stopping them for nothing.
My official position is that government should not be delivering health care. However, I do rationalize that I haven't exactly been living in a nation of conservative principles. I would likely be in better shape financially if invested in companies without a tax load and received more of my wages that went to support other residents of the US, etc.

Re: Morris: Obama Will Repeal Medicare
Of course Obama will limit Medicare and to a limited extent Medicaid. You can not add 50 million new uninsured to systems that are already going broke unless you curtail services. There are segments of society that will die due to this action. Primarily the elderly.
As a retired military person who devoted twenty one years to defending the country, I was promised lifetime free medical coverage. Just lies! Once you get to 65, the DOD sends you to Medicare, no choice. Now I am paying $3000 per year for my wife and I for medical promised to be free.
In addition, I worked and was eligible for medical coverage from my employer. Again at 65 they drop you and send you to Medicare.
Given that many Medicare patients are no the elderly and laws creating a situation that ensures you go to a government solution, its no wonder that they are going broke.
The exact same scenario exists in Social Security, but with the exception of the Ponzi Scheme congress came up with to pay for the Viet Nam war. Once there they never left the trough.

At 65 you can apply for Tricare for Life at no cost to you. Tricare will be the second payer after Medicare. Tricare pays all deductibles and copays.

Re: Morris: Obama Will Repeal Medicare
I'm presently gainfully employed and pay health insurance for both my wife and myself.
And yes, it is costly. But at least I know that we will get the care that we need and when we need it. I've already experienced this from an accident three years ago that required emergency to save not only my left arm but my right hand as well. I tremble to think what might have been had Obamacare been in effect.
Not only would I have lost my left arm but my right hand as well resulting in a loss of employment as an Architect and computer draftsman.
And as I am soon to retire, I'm truly concerned about this proposed destruction of the Medical Care system this piece of liberal, socialist excrement is trying to force upon us.
when I do retire, I will need to resort to Medicare if any medical emergency care is needed, though thankfully for the moment my wife and I are in good health.
But what may be in store for us as we age? And what care will be available? We've paid into the system over the years and if this new thievery from the left passes we may indeed be doomed.
I still remember the movie, "Soylent Green".
This puke has got to go and his socialist minions with him.
Hurry 2012!

I agree with the rest of you, 'where is the big outrage from AARP. I am certain the senoirs that have voted for Obama would not do it again if they had a chance for a do-over.
AARP is very liberal, are they afraid to speak up against Obama and company?!
