WASHINGTON -- President Obama says slavery is a terrible part of the United States' history and should be taught in a way that connects that past cruelty to current events, such as the genocide in Darfur.

During an interview with CNN while traveling in Ghana, Obama compared the legacy of slavery to the history of the Holocaust. He said both are horrible historical points that cannot be ignored and that their lessons must not be forgotten.

Uh... Barry? They don't teach American history in schools now. They did when I was in high school. That's how I learned about slavery. Nowadays they don't have time to teach about slavery and other aspects of American history because they're too busy teaching the kids to be good little leftists. You wouldn't want to interfere with that, would you? I didn't think so.

Uh, be careful what you wish for Barry. Once they start teaching about the evil of slavery, they might be forced into teaching about the hundreds of thousands of Americans who died to free the slaves. We wouldn't want anything positive and uplifting like that to get out.

Point 1: This from a man who's ancesters were not slaves in America. He is an African who happened to become American because of a white mother.

Point 2: Like his missing education on the cold war, he needs to review slavery history. The reason Dutch and English slave dealers were able to obtain slaves to bring to the new world was because black african slavers had them to sell. The middlemen were the Dutch and English, the producers were balck africans. Oh, by the way, isn't it interesting that history never covers the fact that a large proportion of the whites coming to the new world were "endentured servents" held in "economic slavery" until their debts were paid to some european lord or landowner.

Slavery goes back to the beginning of time. All societies have practiced slavery, and it still continues in parts of the world today. Should it be condoned, no, but it is a fact of human existance and societal development.

uhh, scuse me bo bo but just how do you want to go about teaching about slavery in the classroom???? are you wanting to break the classes up into black and white and teach each a particular version of it and by that I mean a guilty version for the whites and a radical version for the blacks to keep them stirred up???? we have enough radical mosques for that already!!!

we have had enough with the guilt over this and many whites fought and died in a war that was eventually changed from being fought over money and states rights to being fought over slaves! in other words it was hijacked just like a lot of subjects have been in the past couple decades.

or do you want to go back to teaching history like they did when I was in school and tell the "true" story instead of the twisted version that anyone outside of the south gets??????

I AM descended from a slave...a White one, who was imprisoned in England and sold to a plantation owner in Georgia for the price of his debt to someone else. Anyone planning on including White slaves in this history class? hmmm?

I can't believe the Jews haven't taken up the cudgels over this. The Holocaust occurred within about 7-8 years. Slavery has occurred since the beginning of time. No way in any way were 6,000,000 slaves tortured, robbed, raped and murdered in a 7-8 year period. I'm not sure what he means by the "legacy of slavery". More of his silver-tongued oratory, no doubt!

No matter what fancy words he uses the fact remains that he makes up whatever he doesn't know or like.

What really bugs me about this is Obama always talks about slavery in the U.S. We Did Not Invent Slavery!! Black People Were Not The Only Ones Enslaved!

This is the history that should be taught in school. The whole history, not just the Obama Excerpted History of the United States of America.
