Reagan: Mr. Gorbachev, Would You Please Consider Tearing Down This Wall?
By Michael Reagan
June 25, 2009
In conjunction with my Reagan Legacy Foundation, I recently marked the 22nd anniversary of my father's famous speech at the Brandenburg Gate in Berlin by publicly announcing an agreement with the Mauer Museum to permanently house a wing dedicated to Ronald Reagan and his leading role in ending the Cold War and reuniting the German people. During a related press event, I was able to share the story about the drafting of the speech, recalling that officials at the U.S. State Department were less than impressed with my father's draft. In fact, they went so far as to have crossed out the most famous and confrontational paragraph challenging President Gorbachev to tear down the Berlin Wall.
You see, some folks at the State Department felt that by taking an aggressive stance towards the Soviet Union the United States would make them feel further threatened and isolated -- as if appeasement had ever worked. Rather than succumbing to the bureaucratic methodology of "peace through submission," my father believed and practiced a policy of "peace through strength."

Re: Reagan: Mr. Gorbachev, Would You Please Consider Tearing Down This Wall?
I get so frustrated at what is happening in Washington right now that I can hardly stand it. The politicians, at least most of them including the ones who claim to be with us, are fumbling because they are spineless or clueless or both and the country which we love and cherish and was founded on Biblical principles is being devastated.
I get even more agitated when I consider that these inept leaders were elected by people who don't have a clue. They remind me of the old "Better Red than Dead" mentality which was used back when Russia was still a power to be reckoned with.
Unless and until we are able to bring quality, conservative, teaching back to the schools by teachers, administrators, and government officials who fear God in the correct sense and believe in the Constitution, we are on the path of no return.
I believe it was Gorbachev who said "We Will Bury You From Within" and the only difference is we are doing it to ourselves.
As we continue to disrespect life by killing unborn babies, disrespect God's plan for marriage and it's participants, treat the Constitution as a living document, and legislate from the bench instead of the Congress, and I could go on, we will never rise up again.
We all know the quote from one of our founders about how belief in God and by extension the Bible is necessary for our Constitution to work as intended. They were made to work together and we have drifted far and away from that concept.

Obama's agenda on foreign policy seems to be "Don't offend anybody," "What they might think of us," and "We are part of the International community." How spineless.
Mike has it right: Obama has abandoned the principles that President Reagan and this country has always stood for.
As for Obama's domestic agenda--it's simple--just have the government run everything.

Hi HisSon,
I put the word 'spineless" in my comment before I saw yours. We must think alike.
One small correct. I think it was Kruschev who threatened to bury us.

No problem on "spineless" Jamble. I know there are a lot of us out there who have the same opinion.
Thank you for the correction about Gorbachev. Once I saw your comment, I realized you had it correct. I wasn't sure and I should have looked it up.

Obama's wishy-washy foreign policy is exactly why we have two rogue nations running full tilt toward full nuclear capability. The last time we had a strong voice in the world was when President Reagan sat in the White House. Where is Mrs Clinton's voice or more correctly has she been muzzled by the boy president?
I am dismayed that the message yesterday from some "twit" in Iran was posted on the Oregon University system's web site front page (here in my home state) and that it managed to stay there for 90 minutes before being taken down. First it's the Chinese in our electrical grid and now in our University pages. What the hell next..........never mind, I don't think I want to hear how impotent our government and our IT community is! You want to kiss these people's backsides any more Obama? Frankly, I am not particularly interested in even having to consider the possibility that my life and the life of my loved ones might be gone in the flash of a nuclear device.
The man who predicted within two months, the 9/11 attack here and also the 7/7 attack in Britain has recently said that there will be another attack here on our soil within the next 4 months and that it will involve multiple targets, in cities and in more rural areas with explosive devices. How particularly strange that we have not heard much about this. How do you suppose our "dear leader" will respond to this should it actually happen. Oh dear, the humanity, the hand wringing, oh dear! Talk about impotent!!!!

Kruschev prophesied America would eventually embrace communism and socialism, a little at a time, by having a huge government controlling everything that the USA will not longer be a Democracy and this would destroy our nation..

Re: Reagan: Mr. Gorbachev, Would You Please Consider Tearing Down This Wall?
For starters, Barrack Obama is nothing more than a talking head, just like his friends at ABC and the other major network news programs. To expect him to do anything definitive that doesn't appear on his teleprompter is a waste of time. He cannot make a hard decision but chooses, instead, to leave the details of just about everything up to someone else.
With his defense cuts and his caving in to all the hairbrained UN programs he can find, he is creating a very dangerous situation for this country.
A real President, Ronald Reagan, left us with a spirit of optimism. With BHO at the helm, I am not optimistic for the future of our nation.
