Default Segel: Do We Have A Crisis Weary America?

By Thomas D. Segel
June 24, 2009

You can hear the murmurs at the Koffee Klatch each morning when farmers gather to talk about their crops and concerns about our government. You can hear the same thing being expressed by businessmen at Rotary luncheon meetings. It doesn't even escape the casual comments offered in conversations following women's Bible Study gatherings. Americans are really starting to get weary of constantly hearing the Obama Administration's chatter about what the Democrats perceive as our latest and greatest crisis.

It started before the election last November, grew in volume following Inauguration Day and has been a steady drumbeat from that day foreword. We had the Wall Street Crisis of major financial markets. We had the AIG Insurance Crisis and its multiple meltdowns in almost every aspect of our economy. We had the Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac Crisis and along with it the Mortgage Crisis. That had not cooled before we had the Bank Crisis, which was also multi-urgent because it brought about a Credit Crisis. We can't forget about the Chrysler Crisis and the General Motors Crisis that brought about a host of mini-crisis concerns from lost jobs to lost shareholder value to downturns in the economies of cities where dealerships were closed.

More

We know that many Americans have not awakened to what is going on.

But at the same time I think many conservative citizens are simply tuning out because of sensory overload and a feeling of helplessness.

What do you think?

Absolutley agree with you Terri about citizens tuning out because of overload with all the crisis and getting weary of a seemingly no response from our representatives in Washington.

I find myself, that I must step away just for my sanity. I feel like someone lost in the woods with no way to find my way out!

I think our representatives have these feelings too and are on overload trying to keep up with all the legislation coming at them from both ends.

Just look at the poor Governor from South Carolina and the pressure he has been under with trying to buck this administration and you get the picture of what is happening.

Citizens feel that they have no where to turn because the government is coming after you. Almost a paranoid feeling we are feeling even with blogging. Are they watching you?

When has this ever happened in our lifetime where we fear our own government?

It is so sad to see what has happened in such a short period of time and yet we know that the worse is yet to come with this train wreck of an administration!

I believe that to be part of the liberal game plan, cram so much in at once, that the people don't have time to react or complain. It is exactly what FDR did

I think a lot of people don't care or don't even worry about it as long as they can still use their credit cards. They will only wake up on the day that they can't pay their credit card bill or reach their credit limit and can't spend anymore. The bad part is that the federal government doesn't have a credit limit and can keep charging forever until they are so far in debt that you just have to shut the country down. There are no bailouts for countries the size of the US.

The only other things I can think of that would wake up most of the sleeping would be another 9/11-style terrorist attack or something else equally world-shattering on the verge of an Apocalypse to bring them out of their MSM/popular-culture induced stupor. For example, you can read and hear about all kinds of people getting shot, but nothing is really going to wake you up to the danger like getting shot yourself. You might think you know what it would be like, but you have no idea until it actually happens to you. Once shot, twice shy, as the old saying goes.
