Williams: Rich People Versus Politicians
By Walter E. Williams
January 7, 2009
Sometimes I wish there were a humane way to get rid of the rich. Without the rich for whipping boys, we might be able to concentrate on what's best for the 99 and a half percent of the rest of us.
Warren Buffett and Bill Gates, with about $60 billion in assets each, are America's richest men. With all that money, what can they force us to do? Can they take our house to make room so that another person can build an auto dealership or a casino parking lot? Can they force us to pay money into the government-run retirement Ponzi scheme called Social Security? Can Buffett and Gates force us to bus our children to schools out of our neighborhood in the name of diversity? Unless they are granted power by politicians, rich people have little power to force us to do anything.

Another article that screams term limits for all levels of government, local, state and federal. The problem - the fox is guarding the henhouse - unless we can oust the fox, old bushy tale will keep rules that suit him!

Re: Williams: Rich People Versus Politicians
And YESTERDAY, Ms. Nancy Piglosi gave herself and the Democrats UNLIMITED greater power than they ever had before by passing?? (I am not totally sure if it was accepted or not at this point, but I suspect it was) a ruling that there will be ABSOLUTELY NO DISSENT OR DISCUSSION OR RE-WORDING ANY BILLS or on anything up for consideration from the REPUBLICAN Party Representatives.
Pilosi, the gift that keeps on giving to herself and her rulling minions who uphold that "balance of power".....

I very much like Walter E. Williams. I heard him do one of the Rush shows during the holidays and he is as sharp and witty as ever, but his voice has lost that wonderful timbre that so enhanced his inflections and accentuations. Or maybe he just had a cold that day. At any rate, he's one of our best.

This was a very good column although not about yesterday's rule change, Claudia. You'll find that in the Congress section of the forum.

Re: Williams: Rich People Versus Politicians
This article just reinforces what an imbecilic bill McCain-Feingold was to begin with, much like anything else McCain has ever had anything to do with. Were it feasible I would like to see all lobbying and lobbyists outlawed. But that, like Prohibition, would just send the business underground and we would have an even more corrupt government than we do now, if such a thing is possible. And it would take out the good lobbyists who lobby for good and just causes along with the corrupt ones.
The rich are not our enemies, unless they spend their money on liberal causes and transforming the US into a socialist/communist state like Soros, Gates, Buffet, Spielberg, the list is near endless, instead of businessmen who invest in America and its people. Our enemies are those who would misuse and abuse their power, money, and influence into turning the US into such a fascist, authoritarian state, with themselves and their cronies on top.

Re: Williams: Rich People Versus Politicians
Greed breeds wealth.
From wealth comes more greed and power.
From power comes more greed wealth and power.
Power corrupts.
Politicans are greedy people looking for power.
From this power they obtain wealth and power.
This power corrupts them ao be even more greedy and to seek even more power and therefore more wealth.
With this power and wealth they gain more wealth and power.
The only control of this evil and all its minions in our form of government is a well-informed voter with a willingness to overlook their own greed and elect people who look to the welfare of the nation and not their own greed and desire for power.
Politicans - another form of crook in its most vilest since.
One only has to look at who "leads" this country to see a true definition of wealth and power and its affect.

Amen, and here is a conservative Hollywood actor with the cajones to speak out against liberalism in an industry where doing so could easily destroy his career:
I'm an American. This has always been my favorite label, but of late even that has seemed to mean less and less. Being called an American used to carry with it a certain pride and esprit de corps that now apparently is dated and passe. How else can one explain the rash of America-haters in our midst who only claim pride in America if a Leftist resides in the White House, and can only back a war effort if the decision to go to war was that of a Democrat.
I’m a Conservative. And I am also an actor who lives and works in Hollywood. Many of my friends advise me to keep that on the down-low, advise me to not speak up lest I scuttle any future employment prospects, so predominantly liberal is the entertainment biz. And yet I persist.
You see, I’m one pissed-off dude.
One Pissed-off Dude, Gary Graham, Big Hollywood
