House Republicans Unveil Free-Market Solution For Big Three
Connie Hair
Human Events
The U.S. House GOP leadership Wednesday unveiled their own “no bailout alternative” to counter the Democrat’s proposed bailout of the United Auto Workers (UAW) union and the Big Three automakers. Represented by Minority Leader John Boehner (R-Ohio), Minority Whip Eric Cantor (R-Va) and Rep. Mike Pence (R-Ind.), the newly-elected Chairman of the Republican Conference, Republicans offered for consideration the American Automotive Reorganization and Recovery Plan, a free-market solution to counter the immediate $15 billion taxpayer-funded bailout proposed by the Democrat leadership in Congress.
In a written statement, Boehner voiced concerns with the Democrat bailout plan.

That's what this is.....bail out the UAW.
If the Big Three want to compete and survive, they should move to States that have "Right to work Laws". This is one reason that the automakers in the South are competitive.

The Republican plan is the best yet offered to circumvent the pending catastrophic nationalization of the auto industry. The plan would offer automakers a fighting chance to get themselves back in the competition.

I agree.
But, the greedy union will not buy into it. They will hold out for help in the future. And, will probably get it.

YOU HAVE THAT RIGHT!! the uaw being the lions share of the problem the big 3 have had all along and even now it would have to clear the uaw before a bailout could be passed.

Re: House Republicans Unveil Free-Market Solution For Big Three
This is a prime (no pun intended) example of why I believe that unions are a good idea gone bad.
I know I'll catch some flack for this, however...
IMHO, it would be to the benefit of many, if not all, if the unions were replaced with non-partisan mediators, who's services would only be required on an as needed basis.
Why should the employee's have to continually pay a union dues "just in case" a union rep. would be needed?
The "dues" that the employees are required to pay is then recouped by the unionized workers in the form of higher pay.
That extra pay comes from us, the customers, in the form of higher prices for the vehicles.
I for one, am glad to hear that at least some of the Republicans are starting to use this rare find among politicians.

sherman, you pretty much hit it on the head! the only thing I have ever seen out of unions is more and more and more!! every time the contract comes up for renewal the union won't settle for what they have already that is good, they want more and get greedy about it.
ever notice that much like your income rising thru social security etc. the prices in the store go up, then rent goes up?? same goes for union dues!
if they win your dues go up. the rent goes up, the food goes up etc. the company has to pay more for your services and you have to pay more for the unions services "just in case". it doesn't matter that your benefit packages went thru the roof costing the employer more on top of your pay going up, the unions have gotten more and more greedy, then they give your money to crooked politics so that they can stay in business and keep taking more from everyone.
I agree, unions have outlived their usefulness. they broke bad employers backs and gave the american worker his just due but now???? they are just crooked and getting more so every year. that is what they have done with the auto industry, broke their backs with more demands. the cash cow is going to dry up for them if the companies go out of business but they think it is just management that is primarily to blame rather than them.
what are unions going to do when there are no american jobs??? ask the government for another bail out to keep them afloat until jobs come back to this country??? this bailout is strictly for them, not the companies they are hurting and going to cause to fail.

Amen! And finally the Republicans are coming up with a plan of their own, based on the free market, and not just wringing their hands over what the Dems are feeding 'em. I hope the Senate will take a look at this new plan, and wash their hands of the monstrosity they have been handed by the House.
I think they're onto something. I hope they can get others to go along with it.

Re: House Republicans Unveil Free-Market Solution For Big Three
This plan makes too much plain economic sense for the senseless, idiotic Dimocraps and their leadership to go along. At least, it finally shows, however, that the Republicans do have an alternative plan to offer, even if it is doomed to failure, instead of going along with the Dimocraps on a bad plan. At any rate I like the Senate plan better. Break the power of the unions to hold the automakers hostage with their outrageous, costly demands.
And those of you who feel the unions are the major, if not sole cause of the US auto industry’s looming demise are not nearly alone. Almost everybody I know thinks the same way. The only way for the industry to survive is to destroy the choking unions.

Remember when the Dems were still working for America's defeat in Iraq? Remember their nonsensical little buzzline of, "we support the troops but not the war?"
