Chambliss win proves sizeable Obama effect
Chambliss win proves sizeable Obama effect

If Georgia is any indication, the Obama effect was huge.
In a runoff election with no presidential candidates on the ballot Tuesday, Peach State voters sent Sen. Saxby Chambliss (R) back to the Senate by what looks to be a resounding margin just four weeks after he led the general election by three points.
In the runoff, he was ahead of Democratic former state Rep. Jim Martin 59-41 with 84 percent of precincts in. That margin could narrow with many precincts in Atlanta still outstanding, but Chambliss outdid his general election performance in nearly every major county in the state – including some by large margins.

The result could also speak to Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin’s (R) continuing appeal to her party’s base, which is the focus of runoff turnout operations. Palin made several stops for Chambliss on Monday,

Re: Chambliss win proves sizeable Obama effect
I have no doubt that part of the win was due to the "Obama effect", but Palin can't be discounted, even though they keep trying. She's a mover and a shaker, and if the RNC and other Repub "elitists" keep trying to discount her, they will be cutting off their noses to spite their faces. She's got what it takes to win an election, they should just shut the heck up and enjoy it.

Let's see . . . Ludacris or Sarah, hmm, Sarah or Ludacris?
DUH!!!
I'm so glad I'm not on the side who thinks Ludacris is a DRAW.
I had a feeling the turnout wouldn't be as good.

It is the first setback for the one. Oh the stock market is one too.
A big thank you to everyone that helped this campaign and the Georgians that voted.

My dad was born in Newnan, GA. He was solid gold; honest, ethical, common sense. I'm glad to see there's still more like him.
Oh by the way you driveby media jerks, your crusade to make Sarah Palin insignificent and irrelevent ain't working so good, is it?

The AP version:

Dems' hopes for Senate supermajority dashed in Ga.
By SHANNON McCAFFREY
Associated Press
December 3, 2008
ATLANTA (AP) -- Relieved Republicans celebrated a resounding win in Georgia's hard-fought U.S. Senate runoff, a victory that denied Democrats a filibuster-proof majority and cemented the state's reputation as a GOP bastion.
Sen. Saxby Chambliss trounced Democrat Jim Martin Tuesday night, winning his second term by a margin of more than 10 percentage points. The race dashed Democrats' hopes of a 60-seat majority immune to Senate filibusters, which would have given President-elect Barack Obama a stronger hand moving his agenda.
A Martin victory was a longshot in Georgia. A Democrat hasn't won an open statewide seat since 1998.

Re: Chambliss win proves sizeable Obama effect
I think the Dems are trying to minimize the importance of the "super majority". Some of them are saying it doesn't matter because there are several Republicans who usually vote with the Dems anyway. They named around four but the only ones I remembr are Olympia Snowe and John McCain. Methinks those few who vote on the Dem side better watch their p's and q's.
I am also wondering if we can get some of the Dems to vote on our side on some issues as well.
JMHO.
