Patton: GOP Needs More Sarahs And Fewer Arnolds
By Doug Patton
November 19, 2008
At the recent Republican Governors Conference in Florida, one superstar (Sarah Palin of Alaska) was center stage, while another (Arnold Schwarzenkennedy of Caleefornia) was conspicuous by his absence.
Fresh off her rollercoaster ride as the 2008 GOP vice presidential nominee, Governor Palin gave a speech that was simultaneously humorous and serious, confident yet self-deprecating. Unshackled from the nitwits who ran the disorganized John McCain for President Campaign, she was relaxed and back in her element. She spoke of the states as a proving ground for the future leadership of the nation, and of the governors as the alternative to Washington's visionless business-as-usual. She is truly a political rising star in the midst of several political rising stars.
Conspicuous by his absence was the governator, celebrity potentate of an increasingly ungovernable state that comprises most of the Left Coast. Apparently, he was too busy begging the federal government for a bailout of his state to bother attending the RGC. Either that or he was pouting because he is no longer the biggest fish in the shrinking pond of GOP governors.

Re: Patton: GOP Needs More Sarahs And Fewer Arnolds
As a Californian I can say that Arnold is an embarrassment. He is what you get when you choose a celebrity over principles (are you listening Minnesota?). Because he has no principles he is willing to make deals with the devil (or Democrats if you prefer) (sounds like McCain). California is failing financially because the Democratically controlled state house can't spend money fast enough and Arnold can't sign those spending bills fast enough.
California is a relatively conservative state that has been abandoned by the Republican party. I can't remember that last time we had a serious conservative Republican candidate run against Feinstein or Boxer. I can't remember the last time a Republican presidential candidate seriously ran in California, yet Proposition 8 passed in California. Other than L.A. and S.F. counties, California votes conservative Republican. It's time the Republican party takes California back.

Re: Patton: GOP Needs More Sarahs And Fewer Arnolds
Absolutely correct! We need to throw people like Arnold, and our own PA Senator Arlen Spector, out of the party and NOT support them!!!
But will the GOP do this??? Probably not, as they continue to support Spector just because he is the incumbent.
Spector is up again in 2010. Is the GOP already gearing up to support him? If so, it is a dead party and we need to start over with a new one.

Re: Patton: GOP Needs More Sarahs And Fewer Arnolds
I am a midwesterner, an outsider in both states, but what you need is a true conservative Republican to run against them in the primary. We certainly need one here in Wisconsin to run against the crook in our statehouse. I supported Pat Toomey with my wallet, and hope that he or Rick Santorum will take on Arlen this time around. I was in favor of Arnold in the recall in California, thinking democrat lite was better than democrat period, and that Arnold was the best bet to win. In hindsight, there was a strong Conservative Republican State Representative that would have been a much better choice. Arnold proves one thing - BE CAREFUL WHAT YOU WISH FOR _ YOU MIGHT GET IT!!
I am a 70 year old senior on fixed income, but I realize the best we can do as conservatives is to contribute as much as possible to true conservative CANDIDATES - NOT THE PARTY and conservative organizations so they can effectively campaign against the liberal socialist communist democrats and their big money donors. I forego luxuries and give every small amount that I can. Oh, did I forget? Be sure to vote and help with the "Get out the Vote" effort. We as Conservatives far outnumber the liberals, and if we all make an effort, we can get out more LEGAL votes than Acorn and all it's subsidiaries can stuff in ballot boxes in all the democrat precincts in the United States.

Re: Patton: GOP Needs More Sarahs And Fewer Arnolds
You can call a pig a swan, but it's not of course, and so it is with the California Governor....he is no Republican and there's no way to "dress him up" to be anything but the sham he is! He has certainly been poisoned by his Kennedy connections and probably isn't even smart enough to see it.
Sarah Palin is the epitome of what most Republicans want in a politician. We can easily see why both the left and the "moderate(?)" Republicans are working really hard to destroy her with the spurious lies they spread. If she's so horrid, why not just let her fall on her face? Oh, guess that wouldn't work......she's the only genuine Republican who was involved in the 2008 campaign.

I agree with Mr. Patton.
We are facing the same situation in my state of Florida. We need more Sarahs. We need someone who has a backbone and will not cave in to the far leftwing liberal Democrats.

Gov. Sarah Palin must be dangerous to the Democrats, as their lapdog media sycophants did their up-most to try and malign her. She is the future for the conservative movement in the USA.

I love this and we need to concentrate on some of these positives that we have and build on them.

Re: Patton: GOP Needs More Sarahs And Fewer Arnolds
Gov. Sarah inspires many because she does not appear contaminated with the usual political fragrance of stupidity and loss of common horse sense, reality, and direction.
I believe she has proved, and promotes the highly successful code of K.I.S.S. Keep It Simple Servant! Or Stupid if you prefer. Either way it's a winner which apparently the present day "good ole boys in congress" have abandoned for "expediency"...t hey say.
Never mind the consequences of their actions.
IMO, it wouldn't hurt the GOP to adopt that code and move out with great exuberance!
The Govenator Ahnold is better at making movies than being a governor in my opinion.
He should return to doing what he does best.
Then he could proudly hold his head up and say....I'm baaaack!
