Bozell: No Tears For National Review

The liberal crocodiles at The New York Times are shedding tears for National Review magazine. The headline of media reporter Tim Arango's piece is "At National Review, a Threat to Its Reputation for Erudition." It is a curious topic for the Times, which usually treats the idea of intellectual conservatism as oxymoronic.

Arango mourns that the tenor of debate at National Review Online, the magazine's Internet sister, "devolved into open nastiness" over the question of Sarah Palin's fitness for the vice presidency, "laying bare debates among conservatives that in a pre-Internet age may have been kept behind closed doors." Arango claims that the coarsening effect of the Internet has damaged NR's "reputation as the cradle for conservative intellectuals and home for erudite and well-mannered debate prized by its founder, William F. "Open nastiness" pretty much describes "debates" by the commiecrat party and supported by its sycophant, the NY Slimes. I'm sure in their own demented minds the garbage they print isn't nasty and all is truthful. But as the great liberal from NY, Daniel Patrick Moynahan once pointed out: "you are entitled to your own opinions but not your own facts." the problem with schizoid liberals is that the difference between fact and opinion is blurred as to be of no difference.

I'm sure Wm. F.Buckley would be very sorry to think there weren't "lively" debates going on.

A big problem with the Republican "intelligentsia" is that they've come to believe they actually are........... or what passes for intelligentsia. They mostly sit around and discuss (gossip) each other and each other's "work" as far as I can see.

People, that isn't what being part of the intelligentsia is all about. You must discuss others' ideas, too; not simply your own. And when discussing others and their ideas, it really isn't quite the thing to merely cast brickbats and call names! Naughty! Naughty!

Good grief! They've become as insular and provincial as the Hollywood colony.
