Sowell: It's Priceless
By Thomas Sowell
November 18, 2008
Wouldn't it be wonderful to live in a world where there were no prices?
If you happened to want a Rolex or a Rolls-Royce, you could just go get one-- or two if you wanted-- and not have to worry about ugly little things like price tags.
There is such a world. It is the world of political rhetoric. No wonder so many people are attracted to that world. It would be a great place to live.
After Arthur Goldberg had served on the Supreme Court, he lamented that more of society's problems could not be dealt with as that court dealt with them-- by reaching a decision and then declaring, "It is so ordered."

Re: Sowell: It's Priceless
Another wonderful "teaching" article that does not point fingers at either party particularly, but at the issue at hand. A perfect one for sending along to our less-informed friends.
Thanks, Terri, for adding the writers' names to the title list. It is really helpful!

This cuts to the heart of the problems with politicians who spend.
Yet still, the es want to spend our way out of problems...and, yes some Republicans too. It's a shame!

Re: Sowell: It's Priceless
That is the exact problem with our government today they have no responsibility at all no one to answer to only to spew the rhetoric around and hope for it to go away, spending in government is the biggest problem we have today and we need to get a cap on it soon and start being in tune to government to stay out of personal lives and do what they were elected to do . I could not run my house hold with their ideas of spending . As always you have the nail hit on the head. So much inflation can readily be placed on our government's spending of money they do not have .

You just wait - As soon as OooooooBama takes over he will start tinkering with issues; the second amendment, abortion, the bail out, others and while everyone is fussing about them, this S^%$ will probably go plop in the night without much coverage, attention or discussion. bHo will legalize about 30 MILLION illegal aliens, adding them to the entitlement line and ensure democrats stay in power indefinitely. Off budget is just another tool for keeping the entitlement crowd fat, happy, growing and voting. Me, cynical?

Re: Sowell: It's Priceless
Thomas, you are right. Obama is great at the shell game and while we are watching one hand, the other will do something we aren't expecting.
This reminds me of a joke line that is part of Jeff Foxworthy's stories. When my husband and I are asked by a salesman to buy something we can't afford, we look at each other and say, "We could write a check!" Anyone who has heard that Foxworthy joke, laughs.. because it's silly! But Congress doesn't get it!
If wishes were a**es, then Dems would ride.

Re: Sowell: It's Priceless
We are about to test the free lunch theory to the extreme and I believe in a very short while. The goldbricks, sluggards and consumate liars we now are currently saddled with in this congress are about to make it so, their antics and rivalry to see who is going to be the head of the mafioso we elected is going to make us more than angry, I believe we are moving more toward taking the laws into our own hands and endangering our love of a well regulated legal society.
I see a feudal system to replace democracy and I hope those of you who are awaiting this new/old method of societal rule learn how to bow and scrape.

Re: Sowell: It's Priceless
As usual Thomas Sowell offers a timely reminder that there are no freebies in politics, only politicians who use smoke and mirrors as a reason to take our money for their benefit.

We are now indentured servants. Will we ever get out of this yoke?
