Fred Thompson may try for RNC post

Fred Thompson seems to be seriously considering a run for the leadership of the national Republican Party, as the GOP prepares to rebuild from the rubble of the 2008 election.

Supporters of Thompson, a onetime presidential candidate and former Tennessee senator, are hopeful that he might run for chairman of the Republican National Committee, a position that would make the former actor public face of the GOP.

"I'm extremely excited that he's considering it," said Scooter Clippard, a Middle Tennessee businessman who spearheaded national fundraising for the Thompson and McCain campaigns. "It's time for a change. Fred Thompson would be the absolute best person to articulate that message for the party."

Newt Gingrich seems to have removed his name from consideration. While there are others these are the two best known names at this time.

I voted for Micheal Steele. I am not that impressed with Fred Thompson and I really think Micheal Steele has had more appropriate experience.

Fred Thompson is too phlegmatic. He was not impressive as a candidate and doesn't seem well-organized.

Michael Steele is energetic, likable articulate and a real conservative.

I voted for Michael Steele. I like Fred Thompson and his conservative beliefs but in his bid for the Presidency, he really dragged his feet. I voted for Michael because I also like his conservative beliefs, but also his energy. He will, I believe, do a great job. We really need life in the Republican Party, and we all need to get out there and keep the Democrats in check.

I voted for Michael Steele. He has energy and hasn't been destroyed by any onslaught of his background and character (yet).

I really like Newt too. He is certainly on point as far as I am concerned so I'd be fine with him or Steele. Newt might not be interested? Maybe he is considering a run as President! I said it first...LOL. I think Newt and Sarah would kick butt. Anyone have a time machine?

Fred Thompson was my initial choice this time around because of all he wrote about and then the whole person showed up and he put me to sleep.

I slept until Palin showed up and she gave me lots of hope, the sun shined again. She is my hope for the conservative future.

I don't see a conservative man who has any fire in them, like Palin has in her, unless it is Newt who has certainly been in the furnace and survived it.

Newt and Palin - 2012 (subject to change if one word goes against conservative values, I don't want ANY moderate across the aisle crap no more).

I voted not sure, because I REALLY like both these people,I would have to do a lot of soul searching to make a choice.

But I really do like Micheal Steele, he has really impressed me.

I voted once again for Michael Steele. Thompson is a good man, but his short-lived bid for the Presidential nomination lacked drive, serious committment and energy. We are desperately in need of all 3 to rejuvenate the GOP!

I voted for Michael Steele for all the same reasons. Emphasis mine.

I vote for Fred because I would rather Michael Steele be reserved to run for the presidency! It seems as if it would be more complicated for the head of the RNC to run for office.
