Default Elites Denying Affordable Energy To Average Americans

By Deneen Borelli
October 9, 2008

Failing schools, crime and single-parent households are just a few of the challenges facing urban communities. Now, thanks to "Club Green" - radical environmentalists and their supporters - soaring energy prices join the list.

Club Green fights against oil exploration in Alaska and off our coasts. A moratorium on offshore drilling was removed from a temporary spending bill, ending a 26-year ban on new leases at the end of September. While a hit to Club Green, House Appropriations Committee Chairman David Obey (D-WI) points out this boon to domestic energy production could be fleeting. Obey told reporters, "This next election will decide what our drilling policy is going to be."

Club Green blocks the construction of new coal-fired power plants that produce electricity. Plans for 59 coal-based power plants were canceled in 2007, and plans for 50 others are now being challenged.

Finally, someone gets whats really affecting the average American 'Affordable Energy'. Elitists [including most members of congress] have yet to get it. Most average Americans aren't directly effected by "the crisis", but energy costs have hit them where it really hurts. Yes I know that "the crisis" will ultimately effect all of us, but the costs of energy has had an immediate effect on the average American's pocketbook [at the pump, in the grocery store, in healthcare costs, and every other area in everyday life].

Thumbs up Re: Elites Denying Affordable Energy To Average Americans

This was an exceptionally well written article explaining how this all affects all of us. It also shows how America's and perhaps the world's elite's are so out of touch with the everyday realities average people must cope with.
I emailed the lady to tell her just this! Now I hope all I send this article to, and all who others send it to, realize the importance of who we elect to the White House, but also who we elect to our Congress. If our politicians cannot see the light, they need replaced with those who do!

This is just a little side note about something I recently read in a NWF magazine. The issue contained interviews with both McCain and Obama answering the same questions on environmental issues. One of the questions involved drilling in ANWR. Of course, Obama was totally against it. McCain said that at this time he was opposed, but at the very end of his answer he said "I want to preserve ANWR as a future reserve source of oil for our children and grandchildren". That surprised me, as I have never heard him say that.
