Default Arizona offers military online voting

By CHRIS KAHN
Associated Press
September 30, 2008

PHOENIX (AP) -- Starting Thursday, voters who are registered in Arizona but live overseas will be able to vote online through a unique Web-based system.

The Secretary of State's Military and Overseas Voting system will allow registered voters to apply for early ballots online and then submit their ballots electronically using a document scanner. Previously, Arizona elections officials allowed them to vote by faxing their ballots.

"They still can vote by fax, and now they have the option of voting on the Internet," Arizona Secretary of State Jan Brewer said Monday.

TOUGH!!
Back during the primaries I read an article that inferred the Pentagon was doing a less than admirable job of providing members of the armed forces with, voter registration and absentee ballot request, information. With that in mind, I sent my son information on a non partisan web site where such data could be obtained for all counties or parishes in all states. His response was that the troops are being virtualy inundated with "contact your voting assistance officer" infomercials via press, radio and TV ensuring that all eligible voters have the opportunity.
Considering the military's voting history - this is not good news for Obama.

The problem a lot of times, though, is getting the absentte ballots sent in time. And getting them back to the States from a war zone is sometimes a problem. During the 2000 election, many military absentee ballots were disallowed because they lacked postmarks, which aren't a requirement. (The Democrats systematically challenged the ballots.) After that happened, Don Rumsfield sent a memo to the Joint Chiefs and Combatant Commanders telling them how the services will make sure all military members — and their family members — who are overseas, or stationed here but are away from home, get the chance to vote. (He did that in March, 2004).

To ME, the votes of our military who are overseas fighting a war to keep us safe are more important than the votes of the people here who take them for granted!

MILITARY votes should be counted "FIRST" as they are putting their lives ahead of "OURS" for our freedoms. GOD BLESS them all!!
