Palin's lawyer has already questioned 2 witnesses
By STEVE QUINN
Associated Press
September 5, 2008
ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) -- The lawyer for Sarah Palin, the Alaska governor and Republican vice presidential candidate, is moving swiftly to head off the controversy known as "Troopergate."
With the country's attention focused on Palin the national candidate, lawyer Thomas Van Flein has worked aggressively to undermine an Alaskan legislative inquiry and has started questioning potentially damaging witnesses against the governor.
The legislature launched a probe of Palin in July after former safety commissioner Walt Monegan said he felt pressured by the governor's office to fire a state trooper involved in a messy divorce with Palin's sister.

What I want to know is: if Wooten fired his Tazer at his 11-yr-old step-son, why isn't he in jail for child-abuse?????

Quote:
The legal tactic of pre-emptive questioning gives the governor a distinct advantage in the controversy because it means that she already knows at the outset the detailed accounts of potential witnesses against her. The procedure also locks important witnesses into the accounts they give. If the witnesses provide statements now that are favorable to Palin, the witnesses' credibility could be called into question if they make statements in the future that are unfavorable to her.

This gives us an indication of her moxie. A good cowboy always cuts the bad guy off at the pass.
It sounds like she is into "damage control" right now, and she's trying to keep the situation from festering or coming back to bite her in the butt.

The union is protecting the trooper, which is why unions for gov. employees are not a good idea. It protects the bad ones.

It's obvious that you don't work for the government! Government unions serve as a checks and balance system to prevent abuse of authority and to protect workers rights. Workers AND management are bound to the contract.
The fact remains: the trooper violated regulations. He will be punished accordingly. The union will not be able to save him.

I worked for uncle sam for 27 years, and only in the last five or six years did I see the gov. unions operate. They were a thorn in the side of supervisors, and the members were ususlly put on the dirty details and passed over when ratings came out, because they were so obnoxious. There should never be unions allowed in federal gov. shops, because all they do is cause trouble. As for as Sarah she is one smart woman, and is way ahead of the game. There ain't no grass growing under her feet!.

As 'twas explained by a columnist trying to "get the goods" on Sarah............... ....... the boy asked to be tasered, so I guess that makes it all right. The taseree is 11 years old and the taseror is a state policeman. Yup. No story there, except that the gov. tried to get him fired from the force.

Re: Palin's lawyer has already questioned 2 witnesses
It's not just the tasering of the 11 year old boy. I understand that when Sarah's sister was going to divorce the trooper she went to her parents at which time the State Trooper threatened to shoot the father in the head if he assisted financially with the divorce. THEN, the Palins filed a formal complaint against the Trooper for making threats. The Trooper was suspended for 10 days but the Union brokered this deal to a 5 day suspension.
