Pelosi gets unwanted lesson in Catholic theology
itics can be treacherous. But House Speaker Nancy Pelosi walked on even riskier ground in a recent TV interview when she attempted a theological defense of her support for abortion rights.
Roman Catholic bishops consider her arguments on St. Augustine and free will so far out of line with church teaching that they have issued a steady stream of statements to correct her.
The latest came Wednesday from Pittsburgh Bishop David Zubik, who said Pelosi, D-Calif., "stepped out of her political role and completely misrepresented the teaching of the Catholic Church in regard to abortion."
It has been a harsh week of rebuke for the Democratic congresswoman, a Catholic school graduate who repeatedly has expressed pride in and love for her religious heritage.

Re: Pelosi gets unwanted lesson in Catholic theology
Great story! But Pelosi's problem is not her opinions, her problem is that the woman got something wrong in her head. She is NOT a Catholic. She is a Communist. I would like to see some kind of action started to eject her out of position as Speaker of the House.
Remember, we don't work for her, she works for us.
Pelosi, You're fired! Clean out your desk and get out.

Re: Pelosi gets unwanted lesson in Catholic theology
Actually, she works for the people who live in her district in San Francisco.
As Speaker she works for, and is elected by, the other Democrat members of the House.
The rest of us have no say.
Elections matter. Holding the majority in the House and Senate matters.

Re: Pelosi gets unwanted lesson in Catholic theology
“from Pittsburgh Bishop David Zubik, who said Pelosi, D-Calif., "stepped out of her political role and completely misrepresented the teaching of the Catholic Church in regard to abortion."… “However, that doesn't mean parishioners can pick and choose what to believe and still be in line with the church.”
How come Meet the Press or other MSM news shows haven't invited a Catholic Church spokesperson to appear on the air to present the Catholic Church’s position on abortion and when life begins? How come I haven't seen any press coverage of Catholic authorities who have come out correcting and denouncing Pelosi? How come? How come?

Re: Pelosi gets unwanted lesson in Catholic theology
" . . .views of Saint Augustine, who said, 'The law does not provide that the act (abortion) pertains to homicide, for there cannot yet be said to be a live soul in a body that lacks sensation." At most, Augustine had to be referring to a very early pregnancy. If he were here today when we have much more scientific information and incredible imaging technology , he would know that the fetus doesn't "lack sensation" . By the way, isn't is amazing that the liberals are so in awe of science but conveniently ignore what science is showing us about life before birth. Speaker Pelosi is really stretching it here, when so much is in the news about partial birth abortion , saline abortions and Obama
s outrageous opposition to the Born Alive infant protection act. Doe she really expect us to believe that the early church fathers would have doubted that this is murder ?

Re: Pelosi gets unwanted lesson in Catholic theology
She may believe that abortion is good, but I bet she is happy her parents didn't abort her. What an idiot, and the way she is running the house of Representatives is a shame and a disgrace. We pay those people to go to wash. and work for us, and get the appropriation bills passed and funded, but they can't do it working 3 days a week ,like she has it doing now. She has completely changed the way the house runs, and changed all the rules, refusing the other representatives, other than democrats, from doing their job.She doesn't take bills to committee, she just gets the rules com. to pass a rule bringing the bill to the floor, with no amendments allowed, causing the other members to go along or vote against it or not, and they have enough sheep to pass the bill without republican support. That is not democracy, or at least what I was taught in civics in school, what and how government worked. We may have to march on washington and remove her from her plush office, and put someone in there that is fair and honest. It is no wonder to me that she thinks she can have babies killed, because there is no one up there to stop her.

Because, the MSM will not put this on their news coverage of any kind so the 'little people' can hear the truth. Don't you know that those fools at NBC, CBS, ABC, MSNBC, etc. have been so happy for 'Change' that they continue to withhold the truth even when it is Pelosi and the people that listen to their garbage believe it.

Re: Pelosi gets unwanted lesson in Catholic theology
From an article by Lisa Fabrizio regarding a rebuke issued by Archbishop Charles Chaput of Denver "...delivered this stinging rebuke (web site) to Pelosi for her claim that her position on abortion was the result of a long study of Church history:"
"Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi is a gifted public servant of strong convictions and many professional skills. Regrettably, knowledge of Catholic history and teaching does not seem to be one of them... Abortion kills an unborn, developing human life. It is always gravely evil, and so are the evasions employed to justify it. Catholics who make excuses for it - whether they're famous or not - fool only themselves and abuse the fidelity of those Catholics who do sincerely seek to follow the Gospel and live their Catholic faith."
I stand corrected - It seems Catholic Church spokespersons are issuing corrections against persons who claim to speak for the Catholic Church. Too bad these corrections don't receive a little more exposure.

Thomas, we've been covering it here for several days and so have many other conservative websites. I've seen some coverage on Fox News but I don't watch the alphabet channels so I don't know what they have been doing.

'receive a little more exposure."
Terri:
Missed the last couple days of GOPUSA and I probably should have said broader exposure. I haven't heard much on the news probably 'cause I'm channel hopping too much so as to miss the dems blah, blah, blah.
