McCain touts drilling agenda from oil platform
By PHILIP ELLIOTT
Associated Press
August 20, 2008
ABOARD THE CHEVRON GENESIS (AP) -- Republican presidential candidate John McCain visited this oil platform in the Gulf of Mexico on Tuesday to call for increased offshore drilling that he claims would lower the cost of food and heating homes.
McCain traveled 130 miles by helicopter to tour the massive facility, which produces 10,000 barrels of oil each day. He criticized his Democratic rival, Barack Obama, for not supporting such a plan.
"He says it won't solve our problem and that it's, quote, not real. He's wrong and the American people know it," McCain told reporters.

Isn't it strange that while McCain was concentrating on one of our major problems (oil), the MSM were all in a snit about Hussein's possible choice for VP?

Experts note that lifting the offshore drilling bans, even if accomplished early in a McCain presidency, would not produce any oil for five to seven years.
|
No citing of who these "experts" are.

There are those "experts" again.

The tracts could potentially yield as much as 400 million barrels of oil, but that amount would only meet the nation's oil needs for about 19 days, and it would be at least seven to 10 years until oil started flowing.

How this reporter knows this, I have no idea. Surely he wouldn't speak to a >gasp!< oil baron!!
Reporters hard left always use the word "claim" instead of "said" It makes it look to the reader as though these "claims" are spurious.
Of course the article is from the Associated Press.

TYPICAL MSM BULLCRAP.... that total article, while giving McCain a bit of press time (in the interest of fairness), sought to show him up to be a fool and touts Obama and plays Soros as a kingmaker.
They think (the MSM) that everyone of us in the USA are total dummies and we can't see through their crap.

Who are the experts that are being quoted here? Surely not the Dims in Congress? Could it be Weasely Clark? Could it be Coward Dean? I know for sure it is definitely not the messiah.
As Col. Potter would say “Horsehockey” With expertise in the well service industry that companies like Haliburton and others have, they can bring an offshore site into production in a matter of months.
They can get land based wells into production in around 6 weeks with 3 months being the max. This is depending on the remoteness of the location and how accessable these places are.

Re: McCain touts drilling agenda from oil platform
I would respond to the "don't bother crowd" with this: If McCain has some oil money donations how much has the Environmental Defense Fund and Sierra club bribed the Democrats with? Oil companies are disadvantaged now as the alternatives are heavily subsided and rich with grants. We need to drill on the mainland where can recover in the Bakken fields in a year.
Just read the USGS article.

I totally concur!! given enough warning and I believe they are trying to ramp up now, they can have enough holes punched in three months to have a good start on the flow. most of the hard work is already done--the seismo to find the oil to have a good start. there is more of that going on to locate even more deposits.
a friend of mine works on one of the rigs over 100 miles out and was telling me that they have a goal of some 48000 feet below mud line (sea floor) for setting the production string. of course he hasn't told me how many holes they will punch from the main drill hole but they have already had problems with gas that could have caused a blow out. that means that there is oil and natural gas down there so should be a good well.
I will how ever say it is about time mccain goes out to visit a rig and see for himself what is involved and find out how safe it is as a rule to drill. with luck he will still be pushing on this and help get those bans lifted so that it won't cost as much to get the oil up. figure in how much it costs to get 120 men per 2 weeks in and out by chopper and then figure out how much it costs to run a boat with supplies out that far every few days if not more often.
it all adds up on the bottom line.
