Default Boxer Bullies Senate's Baby Doctor

By Debra Saunders
August 14, 2008

In July, federal authorities indicted Sen. Ted Stevens, R-Alaska, on corruption charges on the grounds that Alaska's Prince of Earmarks concealed hundreds of thousands of dollars of gifts and improvements to his Alaska home provided by a powerful oil services company. Also this summer, amid the mortgage meltdown, newspapers reported that a number of senators -- including Senate Banking Committee Chairman Christopher Dodd, D-Conn.; Kent Conrad, D-N.D.; and Barack Obama, D.-Ill. -- were the beneficiaries of sweetheart home loans.

In June, the Senate Ethics Committee began an initial look into Dodd's and Conrad's discounted Countrywide Financial VIP loans, as is fitting. Meanwhile, with all of the ethics stink bombs lurking in Washington, the committee, chaired by California Democrat Barbara Boxer, is aiming its guns at Sen. Tom Coburn, R-Okla., for "a serious violation of Senate rules."

Coburn's bad? An obstetrician by profession, Coburn won't heed the committee's threat to reprimand him for delivering babies back home in Oklahoma -- for free.

Just another validation of how nasty and vindictive some of the members of Congress can be. Nothing but payback here and "bully" for the Doctor who would force a full Senate vote in order to expose the character flaws of Barbara Boxer and her specious committee.

Keep after the pork Doctor.............. .it disgusts me that the Legislative branch treats the taxpayers money as some sort of bottomless pit and simply expects cash to fall from the skies as "manna from heaven".

Pathetic. Absolutely Pathetic!

And the Dems care so much for the poor and under-priviledged. Right. Just like it is snowing in Arkansas this very moment

I wonder how SENATE LIBERAL Barbara Boxer would have reacted if the Senate's BABY DOCTOR was performing ABORTIONS FREE OF CHARGE?

Neither House nor Senate representatives were ever expected to be filling full time jobs in that capacity.

If he was a farmer, he certainly wouldn't be expected to plow his fields under or slaughter his livestock. This is absolutely ludicrous.

Where was Boxer's bellicosity when Dingy Harry Reid was completing his fraudulent land deals? In fact, why didn't a single GOP senator question them?

This is another issue hand-delivered to Republicans to discredit the Dems. Hopefully, the Gang of Ten won't step in to blow this one with another 'compromise,' too.

"While Boxer may not mind coming across as petty and vindictive, other senators might hesitate before publicly bullying a man for delivering babies for free."

term limits!!! TERM LIMITS!!! That's the song we should be singing. Two terms and you're out, never to serve again. It will never happen but one can only hope!

I concur. Because Coburn is one of the rare few politicians who has a backbone for doing what needs to be done, he's gaining popularity. Sen. Barbara "Queen B---- of the Universe" Boxer can't have that, so she seeks to undermine him at every turn.

How can unethical people impose ethics on anyone? Will we ever get back to a Government
of the people, by the people and For the people?
