The Rules For Democrats And Republicans
By Doug Patton
July 21, 2008
During his days doing stand-up in the 1960s, Bill Cosby recorded a track for one of his comedy albums about the American Revolution. As only Cosby could tell it, he spun a hilarious version of "the rules" for how the war for American independence was to be fought. The British, Cosby said, had to wear red and march in slow, straight lines, making them targets for the colonists, who were allowed to wear drab clothing that blended into the landscape and who could hide behind hills, trees and rocks as they took aim. It is a bit like this year's presidential race, with Republicans playing by the British rules and Democrats in the role of the colonists.
Like the hapless British soldiers in their bright red uniforms, today's Republican candidates for office are marching toward their doom with "shoot me" written all over them. Consider the following rules for the two parties and see if they don't sound like what is happening this year:

Re: The Rules For Democrats And Republicans
For 6 years, Republicans held the Presidency and had a majority in both houses of Congress.
They wasted this golden opportunity by lacking backbone and acting as if they were afraid of the Democrats.
The size of government grew; earmarks abounded unimpeded by Presidential veto;
new, useless programs were instituted along with their requisite bureaucracies.
Conservative principles were seldom followed.
No wonder people want "change." The only problem is that the change they get is going to be much worse than what they already have.

Re: The Rules For Democrats And Republicans
Couldn't agree with Jamble more about the Republicans committing political suicide while in control of the Presidency and Congress. However, that does not excuse the "rules of engagement" that Mr. Patton expounds upon. Mr. Patton's commentary makes it sound so one-sided that a casual reader might take it as hyperbole, when in fact if anything it is understated. I don't care for Senator McCain. I consider him a poor excuse for a Republican. But Senator Obama is a disater looking for a place to happen, and his sights are set upon the Oval Office. God help us!

Re: The Rules For Democrats And Republicans
Once again, Doug has it absolutely correct!
The political correctness of 1776 helped cause the defeat of the British.
The political correctness of 2008 may help cause the downfall of America!

Re: The Rules For Democrats And Republicans
This article hits the nail on the head. The MSM keeps softballing Obama. We need to tar and feather the MSM for bringing us op-ed opinion disguised as journalism.

Re: The Rules For Democrats And Republicans
"Members of the mainstream media are forbidden to cover stories that are negative to Barack Obama or which present him as inexperienced, unprepared or out-of-the-mainstream of American political thought. Any negative coverage of Obama's health care plan, plan for withdrawal from Iraq or any other position taken by the Democrat presidential candidate is strictly prohibited."
Fortunately there is talk radio to relay the truth. Fortunately there is Fox News Channel to relay the truth. The old established media will always relay their convictions or versions of the truth and will be aligned with dolts like Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid and idealogues like Barack Obama.

Re: The Rules For Democrats And Republicans
Republicans in DC have for too long allowed their opponents to call the shots and it's about time they were put on the defensive.
The few times they're challenged, the standard fallback position is to indignantly demand, "Are you questioning my patriotism?" Darn straight, I am. The basic platform of the Dem party is anti-American. Try to prove me wrong and I'll find holes in all of your arguments.
Thank God that conservative talk radio doesn't get its talking points or marching orders from the wimps at the RNC or the McCain campaign. I know I don't.

Re: The Rules For Democrats And Republicans
Problem is, not everyone watches Fox or listens to talk radio~! I am amazed at the intelligent people around me who don't even follow any news at all, let alone the news from that "evil" entity Fox! On Hannity's radio show the other day, a "man on the street" actually said, "This is on AM radio? Who would ever hear it on AM radio??"
Somehow we DO need to point these things out, and keep on pointing them out. The Dems tell lies loud and often, hoping people believe it if they hear it enough, and they do... We can't count on this Admin. to say it loudly - that has been Bush's big fault all along - not communicating our positions enough.
So what to do? How do we change it? I try one person at a time...
