Default A Time To Drill

By Paul M. Weyrich
July 9, 2008

In a remarkably short time the public has changed from supporters of environmentalism to advocates of drilling for oil and natural gas in the Alaskan National Wildlife Refuge (ANWR) and/or in the ocean. For the first time since the 1970s liberals in both parties have found themselves responding to significant demands for drilling. Their responses are meant to confuse the electorate in order to turn public opinion back to their position on the environment.

Toward that end liberals have come up with two mantras which we hear on every talk show, in every press conference and in every speech addressing the high cost of gasoline. The first mantra is that it will take at least 10, maybe 30 years before we see a drop of oil coming from the ground at the aforementioned sites. The second mantra is that greedy oil companies already have 86 million acres of leases provided by the Federal Government. They only want more leases to satisfy their greed.

The double talk from the extreme left on the Dem side would be laughable if it wasn't such a serious subject. If we don't raise our voices and force Congress to change their tune, the eco-whackos will win and we'll be reduced to the pathetic status of Europe.

The discharge petition idea is an excellent one and I've already written to my representatives (as well as my adopted one, Jim DeMint). This is a big enough issue that a number of Dems will be willing to incur the wrath of Reid and Pelosi.

Call you Senator and Representative today.
I already have.
Tell them that they will allow drilling or you will vote them out, regardless of party affiliation!

Tell them that they will put you first or they will be gone!

Tell your friends to call!

Do it today, do it now!

Drill Here,
Drill Now,
Pay Less,

or

Kick Congress Out!

Quote:
... pro-drilling members of the House and Senate should issue special orders on the chamber floors.
Can someone explain what is meant here by "special orders"?

How about this? Charge customers an extra dollar a gallon at the pumps unless you sign a petition encouraging drilling on our own territory.

Your opinion is balanced, but it is much more complex. In discussion I've found that destruction of habitat is the leading concern. How can anyone blame oil companies for greed in a capitalist society that is based on greed? Millions of Americans owe their jobs and own stock in these companies. I understand that improvements have occurred in extracting oil while minimizing collateral damage to the environment. If anything, the public needs to hear the impact (consequences) of using current technology. By public, I mean the other 90 percent of Americans who do not know the risks. Congress needs to broadcast these findings in such a way, that Americans feel more comfortable with it. Get Americans on the right side of this issue.

Thumbs up Re: A Time To Drill

Special orders are requested by members of the House to make speeches on the floor of the house after legs. is done for the day. up to an hour. They may talk about any subject they wish, and in this case talking about drilling for oil, and the benefits of it. They can debunk the naysayers of drilling by the correct facts about what is the industries point of view, and the amount of time that oil can be gotten out of the ground in places where here is plenty of oil. What the democrats want is for the oil men to drill in areas where there is practically no oil, in order to try and prove their point. In other words, put the truth in the records of the House's proceedings. I hope this tells you what you wanted to know.

Again someone is pointing out that if Republicans would just stand up and explain things, the people would get behind the idea - and this time, MOST Americans are already behind the idea! Why oh why won't the Reps stand up, get out there, and point out that it is just delay tactics being used by Pelosi and gang??
Most Americans don't realize that she can just take things out and deny votes on issues/bills. They think no one is doing anything, not that she is standing in the way!
The best thing Reagan did was stand up and tell people what was going on - COMMUNICATION! When will we get someone who will actually persuade people instead of letting the Dems just chant their mantras as usual, ad nauseum?
Arrgghh - I get so frustrated with the ignorance of the general populace, and then of the lack of communication that would help.
Thanks for letting me vent!

Thank you for the clarification. The problems is that proceedings may be documented but the American public get their content from media. By the time they hear or read the facts it has been morphed by disinformation and special interests. I'll will always bet on "We the people" to make the right choices. If we are going to act on critical and timely issues we need a better way to get the facts to citizens and they must let their Senator and Congressmen (Women) know their opinions. This should be a closed loop process.

Just how many times do we the people have to listen to the words "Wolf, Wolf, Wolf", when there is no danger. Certainly there are risks to drilling, but the alternatives have risks also, some that have not even been evaluated sufficiently. My real issue here is why do "We The People" have to wait for the election cycle to rid ourselves of poor leadership. The current leadership of Senate and Congress should be removed via some type of recall. They are NOT looking after the best interests of our country at all. Take a look at the recent approval rating of this bunch of losers, below double digits. Can we be proud of this system? Not me!
