Poll: Public cool to Michelle, doesn't know Cindy

WASHINGTON (AP) -- The public hasn't taken to Michelle Obama yet, especially whites. And it's got a question about Cindy McCain: Who is she?

People are divided over whether they like the wife of Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama, with 30 percent seeing her favorably and 35 percent unfavorably, according to an Associated Press-Yahoo News poll released Wednesday.

They tilt positively toward the spouse of Republican hopeful John McCain, by 27 percent to 17 percent.

In other words: While the two women are about equally liked, Michelle Obama is twice as disliked as Cindy McCain.

Barack Obama's wife seems to incite stronger feelings. One in five had very negative views of her, triple the number who said so about John McCain's wife. One in 10 had very favorable views of Michelle Obama, double Cindy McCain's number.

IMHO, she is like a young Hillary, trying to get what ever she can any way she can. Where as Cindy reminds me of Nancy Reagon, quite and know her place.

The problem with Cindy McCain is that she is a very private person.

She is a smart business woman and also a philanthropist, actively involved with many causes worldwide helping indigent peoples.

Cindy McCain visited an orphanage in Bangladesh and saw a baby girl there who needed several corrective surgeries. Instead of leaving her there, she decided to adopt the baby and bring her home, all without discussing it with John first.

The McCains have a son on active duty currently serving in Iraq.

What do we know about Michelle Obama?

We know she sat in a pew next to her husband and 2 young daughters, listening to hate speech about America and how shabbily blacks are treated in America.

We know she was educated at Princeton. We also know that after Barack was elected, she is making a lot more money than she was previously.

We know that "for the first time in her adult life, she is proud to be an American."

While it's true we don't elect first ladies, I know who I'd rather have in the WH.

I agree Cindy is a class act. She knows she not the one running for President. I read that she had a stroke, but you would never know it. I'm sure she battled hard in therapy. That determination and hard work alone qualify her as first lady! I wish I knew more about her.

I agree, but she or someone needs to show her to the public. from several emails that I have read and some checking that I have done I like her and agree with the above statement.

she knows what she is about and how to get things done and is as much a class act as laura bush.

I can't stand michelle due to having read her thesis in college, as well as descriptions of classmates who didn't have anything good to say about her. their claim is that she is a racist and people wouldn't know she was one if she didn't wear it on her sleeve for everyone to see.
