Default California mayor takes step toward governor's race

By LISA LEFF
Associated Press
July 2, 2008

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) -- Mayor Gavin Newsom has taken his first public step toward seeking higher office, filing papers to form an exploratory committee for a potential gubernatorial bid in 2010.

Newsom, a Democrat best known for challenging California's ban on same-sex marriage in 2004, is six months into his second and final term, which expires in 2011. Speculation over whether he would run to succeed Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger has pursued him since before his re-election, but the mayor always deflected it by saying his attention remained fixed on the city.

The establishment of an exploratory committee will allow Newsom to start raising money and conducting polls. In announcing the committee Tuesday, Newsom's campaign consultant, Eric Jaye, said it demonstrated the mayor's custom of "listening to people before acting" and that would allow him to launch a campaign "from a position of knowledge and strength."

If the west coast loonies put Newsom in the Gov's mansion, I will support demanding Mexico take California back!

Oh, fer cryin' out loud, I'm no AHHHHHHHHHHnold fan, but Newsom? The state of California needs some real leadership, not from some bisexual corrupt moonbat mayor. The way he's ran San franscisco is a joke, that's what he wants to do to the entire state now.

Ronald Reagan came from here, THAT's more along the lines I was thinking of.

Aaaaanold isn't running Mejifornia any better than Newsome is running San Fransicko so what's the difference? I just read on Drudge that Aaaaanold has made himself available to be B. Hussein Obama's energy czar which is an appropriate title for anyone who might be in his administration since if he should (God help us) become POTUS, it won't be an inauguration, it will be a coronation. J$ss$ J$cks$n, though I hate to say it, is exactly correct on B. Hussein's attitude.
